This is an outstanding effort to get something like this as a result. Really impressed thanks for sharing. I think people who visualize these projects are the really cool. In UK im considering something on a small scale for a 3 bed house. We dont have much space over here

Heck of a project! I have toiled with wood boilers for more years that I care to admit too! My concerns for your unit is material selection for the air tubes and flue. It was my experience that carbon steel, over time, will flake and eventually fail. A stated by Dr. Google: What happens to carbon steel at high temperatures? "Another example of microstructural degradation is decarburization of carbon or alloy steel when exposed to an oxidizing atmosphere at high temperature. There is a loss of strength in the surface layer of the steel." So, basically, it rots away from the heat. I even tried Titanium in one area just as a test...it lasted longer, but eventually failed to do exposure to extreme temps. Good luck!

Well done. I’ve also built my own downdraft wood gasification boiler. I ran it for a few years having trouble getting enough air into the firebox (it was hard to light and would smoke until I got a decent bed of coals) but I just modified it with a bigger blower fan and another port for air to enter the firebox. It’s way better now. East to light and burns clean. When adding wood into a gasified like this, it’s normal to see some steam coming out the glue pipe. It’s just water vapour and you’ll notice it’s white and dissipates quickly. If it’s burning dirty it looks more grey or blue and lingers in the air much longer. Once it’s burned down a bit, the wood in the firebox dries out and it’ll burn clean as you show (nothing visible at all). My air intake doesn’t get red hot like yours because I have it coming in from along the outside of the water jacket. I was afraid I’d burn out the pipes getting it that hot by having them in the firebox like that. Hopefully yours holds up well. Enjoy!

@ MrBiodieseler, to you have a sketch or plans of what you did to show the principles of what you accomplished that you are willing to share?

Can you show or give more details about the fins and channel along the underside of the tank? The shadows block the view.

I am curious to know how the water tank is doing after two years of having 2000 degree flames hitting it.

Nice job. I don't understand why you want to super heat the air? Never could get clear answer. Thanks!
