So happy to see you are reusing an old Honda. I've been a Honda guy since 1966 and will be following this project with great interest. Glad to see you will keep the tank and use it for another purpose. Can't wait to see the next steps. Also, cool that you recognize others may need parts you plan to sell.

You should leave the engine and just add the hub motor and make it a cool hybrid, gas/electric motorcycle. Then again, for "ME", I like options, like if I want to run off a battery or gasoline. You could also use the motor for regen braking to help with a disk brakes on the rear tire. I've been hoping someone who knows more than me would build some thing like this and see how it goes. You can always remove the engine and go all electric, but to do some thing totally different would be cool if you ask me. Plus, you could use the motor to get going and start the engine so no more kicking or push starting either. haha Keep up the great work.

This is a cool idea. Like you said in the video, there are millions of similar bikes around that could have a second life as an electric moto. Be careful if you decide to cut into the fuel tank; make sure it has been cleaned out very well so any sparks do not ignite the old gas fumes.

I am building an electric 1974 Rickman Zundapp electric assed conversion bike (no videos). if you could keep at least the muffler and heat shield part of the high pipe if possible, for cosmetic reasons, that would be great, because it is 50% of the cool style of this bike. one of my all time favorite bikes and electric VERY EXTRA GREAT!!!

*My suggestion* is that you add a support under the tank where the motor is now for the battery pack, possibly a tall obtuse triangular shape that can be removable so you can take it in your apartment to charge but also it'll give you a good mounting point for pegs... This is more of a preference but you can get different bars to improve your riding position and maybe go w/ the delta/wye setup so you can surprise a few people but disguise it as a "turbo" switch (lol), plus it'll help keep whiskey throttle wheelies from happening cause those cubs have short rear ends. Thanks for the vid and keep up the good work¡!

If you decide to go with a hub motor, it may well be worth considering setting it up with regen braking. Though I don't suggest it, my current ebike is set up with regen as the only rear brake, and I find it to be easily sufficient when used in conjunction with a strong front brake for times when quick stops are needed (the regen alone is fine for 95% of my Class 3 ebike city riding). The battery setup you're suggesting would likely handle far more regen current than I have experience with, and you could probably even set up the foot brake to control variable regen current through a Cycle Analyst and/or a compatible controller, while also actuating whatever rear physical brake solution you come up with.

Hi Micah (hope I spelt that right) I love your videos they have helped me a lot. I was going to do a electric bike and instead I went strait to a mini motorcycle. It sounds like you are going to use a hub or mid drive motor like you would a bike so I'm not sure if my advice would help because I mounted a motor on my build which is a little different but here are the 2 major issues I ran into. 1. Underpowered- I used a 2kW motor which when I monitor the power with my inline watts up meter settles more around 600W not sure why becuase everything is maxed and I overvolted the motor. It passes 1kW usually on the start when the motor struggles to get started and the shaft turns over a bit until the momentum surpasses the torque limit. I'm 350 pounds and it pulls me but I tested it with lighter people including my 11 year old nephew but can only get about 10 to 13 MPH tops 2. The biggest issue I have is with weight and power drain. The battery gets super low readings as it drains due to the high power drain. If I let it sit the the total voltage and the cell voltages go back up after a few minutes. If you use a BMS then it will probably cut your power very early in discharge. I just monitor the battery without a bms and am always worried to push it too hard and destroy my battery. Anyway hopefully that helps. I have a couple videos of my bike on my channel. They are very short and undiscriptive but if you are interested to see they are there if you want to see what I did

Awesome project! I love Benjamin Eby's "Big Guy Little Bikes Cub E" project too. I'd been looking into possible ev conversion vehicles and he inspired me to go in this direction as well. I bought a complete cm91 but didn't have the heart to dissect it. I decided to do a restore instead. I've since acquired a number of non op parts bikes. All good ev conversion donors. My problem is vehicle titles. Turns out it's really difficult to get these bikes on the road without a title. However in my state like others you can legally ride a bike 50cc or 1000w ev without vehicle licensing. The only solution I can devise is: 1000w ev street cub bobber! Anyway best wishes! Keep up the "ReVolting" behavior

Looks like a cool candidate for a conversion, but fitting the batteries might be tough. I’ve always wanted to convert an old cub or ct-90 with a hub motor. My current project is a 1967 Kawasaki (or should I say... Kawashocky) A1-SS. It’s got a Motenergy me0708 middrive setup (5kw cont. 15kw peak), 3kwh of used lithium iron phosphate from a Fisker Karma. Top speed indicated by the original speedo is 60mph, not sure how accurate that is though. Needs some wiring work, and a bit of testing on the BMS, but it’s mostly finished otherwise.

I appreciate his disclaimer in the beginning -- not going to lie, at the beginning of the video my first thought was 'Oh no, he's going to hack up and ruin a running, nice vintage motorbike.' And then one second later, I thought about how many of these were made and that they're not exactly rare or collectible and how you can still buy one for under $1,000. And then Micah said the same thing, reaffirming the theme.

Hi Micah; I have been at this battery thing for some time now and because i am a slow learner it has taken me a longer time to put things together and i have come up with the realization that in this field of diy there is a noticeable lack of basic info when it comes to explaining just what batteries can be grouped to form a bank ie;can you match up 1300 with 2000 mah batts with each other as well as similar c rated discharging batts- i guess what i saying is i am just discovering that there is not enough sharing just what is all involved when it comes to choosing what 18650's go together, there seems to be enough of how but very very little on the basic groupings of batteries,am i that slow, thanks vince.
