Nice idea with the steel banding, but for better use of its strength would be running it along the centre of the top box bottoms with it epoxied into a lengthwise groove. This would reduce the length of the effective cantilever and increase its effectiveness. Enjoying the series been interesting to watch

Cheers Ritchie. I'm running it flat along both the front of the carcasses (with the facias routed to accommodate it) thereby maximising it's strength as the sag will be going into the 30mm not the 3mm if that's what you mean?

Great vid. Word of warning for plunge saw is a lot of the cheap ones are based on scheppach pl55 and although cut down on dust there are numerous mod videos to improve it as they still put out a fair bit. Should be a lot less than than your circular though. Word of warning from experience check the riving knife on the plunge saw as was a point of failure on mine. It would loosen and move stopping your cut as it would not match the line of the blade and catch on my work piece.

Great insights thanks for sharing! Just a warning, I tried to make the same cyclone and bucket combo and mine collapsed, in the same way Matt’s did from Badger Workshop. He managed to sort his out and put a wooden ring in the middle to stop it doing it again. I couldn’t get mine to pull out again and had to chuck the bucket sadly. I bought a cheap ash bucket instead that does the same thing and it works great. Good luck with the rest of the build!

Another good video. I bought an Aldi track saw following Peter Millards review, and I am quite please with it. It cuts straight and true, the biggest issue for me is the 2 x 700 pieces of track which you have to join together. I have also found it difficult to buy a longer track, but as I do not use it often enough to be that concerned. I am not sure that your steel band idea will work. Think about how it sags when you hold, say 1m out, but again you may have a cunning plan!
@daniel.s8126

Surely you can buy a 1400mm track from Scheppach? I’ve owned the Scheppach version of the saw for years now, it came with the 1400mm track. I recently bought a second track for breaking down larger boards as I’m planning some cabinet builds

Amazing light system. Great tips. I'm looking to rebuild my built in wardrobes as they have been here for over 20 years now and the contruction of the ones i have weren't quiet sturdy. But looking at mine while watching the video I've noticed mine has like an extra plank at the front inside the carcass to make it look maybe better framed if i can phase it as such. So I feel an even simpler or well beginner friendly way to add lights if you would like to do so is maybe adding a plank inside infront of the wardrobe carcass with the front being a flush 90° and the inside more like a 45° angle and then placing your light strip on that so its shining onto your items in the wardrobe instead of your eyes like you said. But the grooves you added is a nice addition if you maybe adding shelving and want each individual shelf to have a light beneath to light when you open the wardrobe. Just an idea i wanted to share for maybe a more beginner thats not really supplied with tuns of different tools they have on hand to use if its not an everyday type of tool or not so big diy person but would need to build something like a cubourt. Thanks for sharing all the useful advice, I feel myself and alot of people really appreciate it. It can be simple once you got your information and thats why youtube is one of the best apps ever made you can learn litterly anything on here if you put your mind to it

hi charlie great project but is it worth the time and effort trying to hide the sensors with those wedges the sensor looks great as it is and it is designed for the job .
@CharlieDIYte
3 жыл бұрын
For me, the sensors look better hidden. I'm going for a dark paint scheme, so the silver cylinder would really stand out, and the unknown is whether the adhesive would fail in time leaving you with a bit of a fiddly problem. I think they look much better recessed (in the overlay door application) so that's why I've done the wedges although I agree, you could argue the wedges look more obtrusive than the sensor itself!! Shouldn't though when it's all painted.

Hi Charlie. Your link to the strip lights no longer works and I am struggling to find the LED strip lights with connecting cables like the one in your videos. Could you suggest another supplier please as they look amazing!!

That's bizarre. I wonder how long the site will be down. This is the lighting bit.ly/3h2mo9q and then if you click on accessories bit.ly/3h2mo9q you need the 2.5m driver connection cable, and then you need one of these drivers bit.ly/3qp66fk and the sensor switch is here bit.ly/3j7UH1O and you might want an extension cable if you're driver is more than 2.5m from the light, again on the Accessories page. Hope that helps.

Thanks Charlie, that really helps. Doing a build for my son (11 years old) and as you can imagine is obsessed with LED lighting. Big fan of your channel mate - you are a big inspiration to us diyers 👍

Would you be better with a bit of angle behind the architrave on top to stop the sag. The 3mm you showed was sagging whilst you held it. The routing for the cables was tidy.
@CharlieDIYte

Not a bad idea that. The 30mm sags when you bend it on its length as I did in the video, but i think it will be pretty rock solid if you try and bend it through the 30mm width. We shall see!

Hi Charlie, loving this series. If you've gone for the Mac Allister MSPS1200 from Screwfix you'll want to take off the anti kick back knob straight away, it's a nightmare. Apart from that it's a great tool & fantastic for the price. I use it with a Henry & it makes a huge amount of difference to the dust created. All the best. P.S. glad to see you're using the Mitre Fast, try it on the stiles & rails, saves all the hassle of nailing & filling!!

Thanks mate. I've actually gone with the Erbauer, but that has an anti kick back on it too, which I will be removing. Good old Henry, mine has taken so much abuse on building projects over the years. 👍🏻👊🏻

After your comment on the comments about your heater, I was wondering how people survived pre H&S. I suppose commonsense could be just disappearing, in favour of being told what to do. Just wondering 😉

We live in a world where common sense definitely doesn't prevail any more and people are increasinigly expecting the state or someone else to look after them, or to blame when something goes wrong. 🤣 That said I couldn't do this without the comments because even the ones that are a bit obvious are people taking the time to express an opinion, which I think is great 👍🏻👊🏻

Nice progress Charlie 👍🏼. Have you ever been tempted by a Kreg jig for angled grooves and joins? They seem popular with US youtubers but I'm always concerned that they seem to lock you in to kreg screws
@CharlieDIYte
3 жыл бұрын
I did a lot of research on the Kreg a few months ago and am very interested in it. Haven't bought one yet though. Partly because of the size of the holes you have to fill if any are on show (I was contemplating it for an outdoor seating build but the holes put me off so I'm going to route mortices instead. Impressive bit of kit though. 👍🏻

Oooh I like those lights. Can you use 1 light strip to be activated by two different sensors, so that the wardrobe can be illuminated regardless of which door is opened?
@CharlieDIYte
3 жыл бұрын
It's a switch so I guess you could in principle. You'd be connecting two sensors to one driver block that the light is plugged into. Might be worth a call to Sensio to check 👍🏻

Hi Charlie, fantastic video as always just wanted to ask will you be reviewing your plunge saw and dust extraction any where in the future ? Do you think it's good idea to go with titan vacuum plus dust extraction system 😀👍thank you
@CharlieDIYte
3 жыл бұрын
Yes I certainly will. That Titan is ok only as a shop vac, but in this context it's perfectly capable, so for the price I'd definitely recommend it Did you see this vid kzitem.info/news/bejne/xI2ivoOop4yho2k . Worth taking through the comments because there were some great recommendations in there. The cyclone will be useful I think because I've always been a fan of using bags with the vac, and with the cyclone I should be able to dispense with the bag - which fits SO BADLY it's as if they didn't want you to use one with it. Maybe they've sorted the design in the new one... If however you're wanting to use it in the house as well, get one of the new Henry XLs

Hi Charlie, do your light strips light up individually for each open wardrobe section, or do all the light strips light up at the same time regardless of which door you open. Just trying to visualise the wiring and what I need to purchase. Many thanks, extremely helpful and clear videos 👍
@CharlieDIYte
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ged, they light up individually. It's worth watching video 4 and 6 to see how it came together. Basically each wardrobe has a terminal that is connected, (to supply it with power) via a long cable to the main driver above wardrobe 1, that links the sensor switch to the circuit and then you can plug up to 5 individual light strips to that terminal. The central wardrobe for example has two lights, one vertical to light up each shelf.

Charlie I am starting my wardrobe project but I have a question. How are you going to paint your wardrobe when fitted?Roller or airless paint sprayer,because will be not so easy in far corners etc? I would rather to do same as you,build first and paint later,please advise.Thank you

Hi, I'm going to prime the carcasses shortly, with Zinsser BIN. I'll use a mini roller, synthetic sleeve and a paint brush to get in the corners. Too messy to spray paint in situ.

Charlie hope you read this and am sure you have taken it into account,but I did as you are doing as forgot to take into account that it was facing north.we get mould all the time and several shoes are mow ruined as they got it too.I feel that a moisture vapour barrier will help your build loads.so if you can I would defo do this as it’s cheap to do and won’t do any harm.kindest regards tim

Yes I go through that in the week 1 video kzitem.info/news/bejne/s2easa2YnYuqjG0 My carpenter mate has the same problem. In my case it shouldn't be an issue because I've insulated the external wall and the way I've done it there are effectively two vapour barriers and no cold bridges even behind the sockets. It's actually less about the vapour barrier and more the dew point created by the moisture hitting a cold surface. So eradicate the cold surface and you've effectively eradicated the problem. Vapour barriers are really to prevent vapour from the air inside getting through your walls and causing interstitial condensation. Check out my video on this if you have a moment kzitem.info/news/bejne/tX96yGGmnYGfi4I. The key is to get on top of your humidity problem, which you can do with a few basic lifestyle adjustments, and the first step is to get a few hygrometers so you can actually see what your daily humidity levels are. Keep it below 60% and mould shouldn't form. However wardrobes are a problem because there's no air circulation. Thanks for the heads up though 👍🏻

Massively Garran. It's this one amzn.to/2LPZxlU I wouldn't use any other laser than Leica. They do lots of different ones, but this one has served me very well for simple measuring.
