I find sanding and staining easier to do before assembly. Then just touch ups after installing. Is that just me? 🤔

Girl, I am the handy women. All the tools in our garage are my tools, my husband wouldn't know how to use them if he tried. I have built our fireplace, fixed our washing machine and dishwasher, painted our rooms, hang all of the things, trim the bushes, etc.

WOW!!! You are my hero. I would like to know how to do this kind of stuff. My husband doesn’t like/want to do anything around the house. 😏. I don’t feel as strong as a few year ago and I am not sure if I could handle the tools. 😢

He is actually a very supportive partner. It's just funny that this area is my expertise with tools and such. Mostly because I was always "well I want it a certain way and paying someone to do it is too expensive and they still do a bad job." So I just started doing bigger and bigger projects over time. I'm the one who built our giant playset, floor to ceiling fireplace etc. When any handyman does visit the house it's me they need to talk to because I am the only one who knows about the water heater/ac system/etc. But they typically try to talk to him first. He works very hard as a software engineer so that I don't have to work. I get to run the home, dabble in projects, and do things for the kids. I make things with a laser engraver and sell them, so working on starting my own business. But none of it would be possible without the full support that he gives. He is very helpful with our boys and always lets me take nap/bath/etc when I need it. Which I do often because I have a heart condition.

Hi! Great job! From an interior designer I'd recommend sanding and staining outside. Lots of stains and some wood contain toxic chemicals called VOCs (volatile organic compounds). They're not safe to inhale, but since you've already got them up just make sure you ventilate the bathroom!

Those shelves look great! Go for it, girly! My dad was always starting new projects and never finishing one of them. My momma taught herself how to fix the maintenance needs around the house because... well, because someone had to get it done. She became a pro at wallpapering in the 80s and used her skills to make some pocket money. She fixed doors, leaky sinks, and just about everything else that needed done around the house. I have only recently found the bug for home improvement and never really appreciated any of it as a kid.

I thought that too and then I just paused and was like well. I guess it is less coats of paint over the drywall. I did find that odd. But maybe it’s so she could see the markings better. I don’t know.
