Very nice build, I dont know why it took so long to come across this video but im glad I did. I also have a first gen Tundra and this exact method is what i was looking to do to build a pop up. Looks light weight with mostly 3/4 inch plywood im assuming? Then seal it with pmf, and reinforce with aluminum?

I Appreciate the kind words. The build is mostly 1x4 and 1x6 for the cab over structure material with 1/2 ply shear for the skinning. The only 3/4 is the cab over bottom and the double up 3/4 ply for the bed rail contact points. The aluminum is a good idea. As far as the pmf… that’s up to you. I didn’t use it. I just painted the exterior sides and used flex seal for the roof. I have had issues with water a few times from joints flexing and stretching from natural truck flex but only on the roof. The overall dry weight was about 450#. On my next build I’m going to use sheet metal for the skin with wood/metal structure depending on availability and weight. The roof I may use sheet metal skin or rubberized sheeting. If I had one thing to express to pay the closest attention to is the roof and how you seal it. Get that right and the structural soundness and you’re golden. Best wishes.

@tempmaster1995 thank you for sharing! The biggest thing for me is to make sure that everything is water tight and that the roof can support a decent load when it's down to haul some gear.

Did you weight it when you were done?

Not bad considering all the wood you used. Planning on something similar with my Tundra but will probably go with SIPs and only use framing where anchor points are. How do you manage dust and water intrusion which is an issue with the FWC Project M?

@@rangerdanger88 I initially had issues with water too but because I was in a rush and didn’t completely seal the roof. I used flex seal but don’t recommend. When I go to version 2.0 I will cover with sheet metal and use a durable butyl caulking. Flex seal is absolutely not paintable. Found out the hard way. Also, where the topper meets the bed rail I used a double bulb seal as they do but I made the front wall rest on the front of the bed rail so I didn’t have that problem with the angle they use. Just didn’t like that concept they use. Hope this helps.

First mention it was blurry. Maybe reboot your device and try again and let me know. I do plan on putting up more content with narration in the future.
