You are amazing being able to design complex projects so successfully, having such great ideas such as the lighting, and knowing which are the best tools and materials for the job. The positive videos that you are making are so enjoyable to watch, and encourage the rest of us. Well done and thank you ! Phil Dodd, Leominster, Herefordshire, England

This video is timely, because right now I am contemplating a similar wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling bookcase build for my house. I my experience, the biggest design issue for most bookcases is how to prevent the shelves sagging under the weight of books. Books are very heavy for their sizes, and a whole shelf full has a lot of downward force. Plywood is strong, but it does tend to flex when it is stressed perpendicular to the direction of the plies. I give you credit for talking about some measures to give the shelves more support. I’m also impressed that you and your husband have the whole multivolume set of the Oxford English Dictionary. Respect!

For the LED strips you can get aluminium channel that you can insert the strip into, and they come with either a clear or frosted plastic diffuser. It also helps because the channel acts as a heat sink for the LED strips. In the U.K. I’ve installed the 1m lengths in a window behind a wooden lintel. The longest channel I’ve seen is 2m but I’m sure you can get longer. Great stuff keep it up.

I had to pause and comment at 4:31. Your doggie - aw! It reminds me so much of our dearly departed lab - as soon as there's an opportunity to stick a head under an armpit it is seized!!! So cute. Opportunistic petting seekers!! Our lab used to head butt us if we weren't compliant until eventually we'd give in and end up giving her an entire body massage - oh the groans of pleasure out of her was brilliant. So miss our furry sister

Great video. I'm interested why you used plywood rather than a thick MDF such as 18mm for the build as it's painted anyway. I'm thinking of building something similar but big factor of cost of decent marine grade plywood (with good finish) versus mdf or structural ply (with worse face finish) here in Australia

Wonderful! Thanks for this, you are a woman after my own heart although I'm more of a bush carpenter (Australia) and will mill my own timber. I really appreciate the links to sources in the description. I'm about to build a personal library in a 7m x 7m room. I'm estimating 250 lineal metres of shelving. At this stage I'm putting in a domed ceiling but thought I'd look ahead a little and see what I need to prepare for. I'm keen to see how the LED lighting looks in your project. My main reservation about your approach is that you seem to be building in the technology. Technology changes quite rapidly and becomes redundant. I would not build in speakers or screens. Do you have an overall wiring schematic or have I missed it?
