Thanks for the Great! idea. I put one together for my e-bike it weighs around 75lbs.. I thought about using 1" to beef it up, but I ended up using 3/4" instead. So far it seems strong enough. I also used a floor flange and mounted to the ceiling so that I can remove when not in use.. Thanks again.

Great idea! And it works perfectly! I had all materials aside from a couple 90deg elbows. The only thing I did differently was at the top I used a floor flange and tightened it up just enough so the whole thing can just get pushed (tightened) up to the rafters and it stays up. (No swinging) thanks for the great idea.

Great idea Jens! Thanks for sharing! Another option for suspending it from the rafters would be to just use a threaded pipe flange. I believe that would offer more rigidity and be quicker and easier to make as well as maybe a bit cheaper. It would also be easy to remove by just unscrewing it from the flange. I think that is how I will make mine.

This is next level smart ! I kept wondering how you actually mounted it to ceiling, was thinking you would leave that out. To improve on this i would run a light piece of chain with crimped S-hook attaching to an eye-bolt or something instead of the bungee. Those bungee's will dry out and break over time. Also you can take a bike inner tube and use that to clamp the seat post.

Nice work. Great minds think alike... I built one with a wood clamp too. Only difference is mine hangs from the end of a tubular clothes line. I used an old mongoose BMX frame for an offset to have it hang down to my level. I should do a video on it one day.

What was your process for boring the hole in the wooden clamp jaws? Did you just bore a hole in one block and then afterwards cut that in half?
@OldManFatBike
4 жыл бұрын
I actually cut the piece in half first and then held the two pieces together with a clamp and then drilled it. I was afraid it would be two small because of the material that would be removed by the saw blade. I hope that helps @Spideog 😉

Unfortunately I live in florida where basements pretty much dont exist unless in a 2-3 story townhome...Guess I'll be looking for a leaning tree or scouting around for a kids swing set A-Frame structure...if I get engineering crazy and build something thats gonna defeat the $$$ low cost factor...😒

Jens Jacobs ... I dont have a garage any more, but living in south fla 😎 I do have a 23'x25' - 3' thick poured concrete BOMB SHELTER thats 7' below ground and 7' above ground from the Cuban missle Crisis Kennedy days...😒😒 Right now im leaning towards core drilling a 1 1/2" hole in my driveway with a removeable/revolving post built setup....or a type that the lower frame rails sits on top of like a dirt bike stand...very sturdy...front wheel will sit on ground....gonna line the metal frame 1/2 round tubing that comes in contact with the bike frame with business type flat rubber backed carpet from a carpet tile, which might be an option for you also....a cushioned carpet faced clamping surface...bendable to the wood frame U made for the seat post...waddya think??
