As someone who's never done this before and looking at videos to figure this out, this comment goes out to all the negative commenters who are saying this is the stupidest way to go about this. If it's not the best way to go about doing this project, don't just trash the video, how about actually making some helpful suggestions. Your negative comments don't help anyone. I don't see YOUR helpful video on KZitem! Regardless of all the naysayers, BYOT got the job done!

Your videos instill a lot of confidence in the viewers. It makes me believe in myself. Also, thank you so much for not editing out mistakes you make while doing your projects, it makes a perfectionist and timid person like myself be more courageous and forgiving of myself. Thanks for that. Even a great craftsman and carpenter like yourself make mistakes while doing a project and they still turn out beautiful. Great great job man!

I did a hybrid of what some are saying, using pvc with a jet tip, but In the PNW here we have a lot of large rocks in the soil. so I used a 8' "dig bar" which is effectively what you made with the pipe, and i hit it a bunch with a sledge hammer!

PVC conduit with a water nozzle at one end and a and a female fitting at the other end to screw a water hose. Water pressure will create a path.

I have a well in our driveway and the power cable broke under the ground. I had a plumber come and install a temporary cable but now I need to get it under the pavement. Your video is interesting but not quite what I needed. I need something I can buy to put on my drill. I need to go right angle then straight. I am not good at making tools like you are.

I am trying to tunnel under a small concrete slab about 3' wide. I have tried using the water and PVC pipe method like everyone is suggesting. I can't breakthrough. Any idea why this is so difficult? I have spent hours on this. It sounds like it should not take this long with water and PVC.

Are you just using you garden hose pressure? if so you might want to barrow or rent a pressure washer so you have extra power that is needed in your case potentially. Thanks for watching Marilyn and hope you enjoyed the video.

You may be hitting concrete or rocks. Try going a bit deeper with the new line, or moving a few feet over from where you last tried. Also, concrete is sometimes installed over a base of rock - typically 3/4 gravel. You would have to go below that to get the line across. Think about going larger than the line you actually need. If I needed a 1/2 in line I would first place a 1 in. Line under the slab and then feed the 1/2 inch through it. Then if there are later issues you can pull out the 1/2 in. line and not have to fight to get a new one in.

I like that his solution was free by finding a way with stuff around the house. He lucked out only needing to go under a few feet of concrete, but yeah, he would've saved himself a ton of time and work doing that method. The fittings are cheap, too.... $5 for an "Orbit Walkway Tunnel Kit" at Home Depot

Seriously easier with water hose, (running full blast, hooked to pvc pipe, with other end of pvc pipe capped, and a large nail hole in it, which makes it a Jet Blaster as you push/pull back/push the pvc pipe under the sidewalk. Took me all of four minutes to get fully across under the city sidewalk, to get irrigation line into parking strip. Four (4) freaking minutes. Time for a beer.

Exactly my thought. Banging that dry rather than boring with a wet jet makes the job way harder and carries a potential to crack the concrete

Great job! A friend of mine needs to do something similar but for a pool in a home built mid 60's. Any suggestions on how to rewire a doorbell. Our new home was built fast and the door bell wasn't placed in a very practical place meaning its on the wrong side of the door. We want to install a door bell/camera but the angle wouldn't show much of the person so we must figure out how to get it from one side to the other under the tile and through the brick . Any ideas?

I actually have to replace my door bell so I'll make sure to do a BYOT on it. However, I won't need to reposition my doorbell so I'll have to do some research on your situation. I feel like I have seen some Bluetooth/ remote powered doorbells out on the marketplace. Have you looked into those products yet?

Go overhead instead of underground. You can splice the lines in the attic to run the new doorbell camera.

How many years did it take until that concrete cracked?….anytime you remove compacted dirt, sand or rock from under a sidewalk “eventually it will crack”…it make take a a few years but there will be a hairline crack, it will happen. The better way is pound a larger diameter pipe under the sidewalk and leave it, then run your hose through it. It won’t ever crack, the way you do it is fine for DIY’rs but a contractor will end up with a insurance claim!

I have used a tool that is specifically created to hammer a sleeve under a slab. It's like a giant ~20 lb needle, and you use a sledge to hammer the head of the needle with the sleeve around it. Does anyone know what this is called?
