If I had seen this sooner, I would suggest to inspect the brushes. Those black caps. Take them out. Replace the brush if necessary. But I'm sure it's long gone.

the knives are set too high, look at the geometry while planning- The knives cut higher than both the in- and out-feed tables, so when the wood leaves the infeed table, it dumps down on the knives. :-O

By no means an expert on these things but I think the reason why your design “failed” is because you did not add a step on the “out-feed” side. From all of the other videos I have seen on this (I have yet to build my own) a raised level on the out-feed side ensures that there is a height/depth difference before and after the blade, which maintains parallel after the cut. I also think you should check the brushes. Might be a cheap EBay fix 👍🏻
@CornerfieldShop
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, it's actually something that's solved in the planer itself. There is an adjustment screw for the height of the in-feed which is basically what you are saying. I agree that having it on the out-feed side would be preferable but beggars can't be choosers. A version two of this build with a new machine would definitely also get an improved design. Thanks for commenting ✌️

Pushing his thumb down on the back end of the wood is definitely not helping his cause. Following through on the front, keeping the pressure level after the cut is what could help.

Why not just clamp the planer into your workmate bench. Check the level and off ya go??
@CornerfieldShop

Well you could do that but without a fence it's not very practical to use. Plus the setup time will probably cause you to never use it like that. But of course, you don't have to make a jig to use it as a planer.
