Just bought the same Kreg jig and had buyers remorse thinking I maybe should have coughed up the extra bucks for the next model up. Thanks to your modification there's no need now! Exactly what I needed. Thanks for taking the time to share.

Thank you. You have provided the solution in using the jig for different thickness material as it was designed. I must have viewed most of the videos looking for a method to use this feature. I will do this for my own jig. Maybe I will post some pictures.

Thanks, so much for posting this. I bought the R3, just like yours, about two years ago and every time I think I’ll use it, I give up due to its complexity and needing the appropriate clamp. I think you just changed the game for me.

Thanks. I have a set of K1 jigs that I have combined on a board and they work brilliantly. I have had the R3 that you have modified and I was just working out how to make a jig for it to do exactly what you have done. It seems that so far all the things I was considering to allow for were spot on and you have shown how to solve the problems. Great work. Pk

Hi Dustin, this is amazing. I have one question if you will; are you able to clarify how the 2x3s are moving laterally to tighten/loosen the grip on the Kreg jig? My confusion is if the 2x3s are screwed from the bottom, how is the bolt squeezing the Kreg? Thank you.

Nice job there Dustin. Innovative, I like it. I would add some kind of rubber foot on the end of your clamp so as not to mar the surface of your workpiece.
@DustinRogersinMO
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike. I originally had a rubber stopper over the end, but it made adjusting the toggle bolt difficult to when changing for the different thicknesses. I may try an elevator bolt instead. It's got a large flat and round head. Maybe glue a bit of leather to it or something? You can sometimes buy furniture glides that have a 5/16-18 thread, but you typically have to buy a pack of 4 and they'll run you $10 or more.
@MikeKapotsy
8 жыл бұрын
Dustin Rogers all good alternatives. I'd probably go with the elevator bolt, or else glue a piece of leather on the head of the bolt. Larger bolt head would be better though. Maybe somehow reuse that pad you removed from the jig where the clamp goes?

Really appreciate the idea and nice video, Dustin. The camera close-ups were quite helpful. I make once this afternoon just like yours and look forward to using it on my next project. I found it cumbersome to align the grey sliders along the the 2X3 to transfer measurements for the thickness guide. In case anyone is interested, each 1/8" increment is exactly 5 mm apart.

If you made that base shaped kinda like a "T" so that the area which holds the panel is wider, it would allow you to hold wider panels. I will be making a version of this myself. PS, here is a great idea for your clamp: www.amazon.com/dp/B001ENSLW6/?coliid=I1C6CW5A44QU5F&colid=1SU97F6M86A1&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Thanks for the inspiration to DIY the jig base. I have the toggle clamp on order from Amazon but have opted to use a C-clamp to lock the jig in place since I don't have a spare knob lying around. :^) I'm going to keep the jig and its parts in its plastic case when not in use so will use the built-in guide to set the drill stop.

+Dustin Rogers what length is the screws that go in the 2x3
@DustinRogersinMO
8 жыл бұрын
I just used 1-1/4" (or maybe 2") drywall screws. It's just whatever was closest when I assembled it. Of course, if your base is thicker than the 1/2" ply that I used, you may need to use longer screws.

So, could something like this be made so that you could use this to make it able to make pocket holes in thicker wood
@DustinRogersinMO
7 жыл бұрын
I think you could just continue the marks up at the same increments as the original markings. One of the limitations will be the length of the drill bit depending on how thick your wood is.
