LIKE SO HE SEES: Make a quench tank ( vertical tube ), and then you need to create a constant tempature all throughout the oil. Stir it a lot! Look up what tempature the oil needs to be at according to your steel type, then check it in all places with a tempature meter, keep stirring the oil. don't quench one blade quickly after the other, allow the oil to cool down to the designated oil tempature, stir between heat treats. Also! Don't be afraid to hold the steel in there for like 15 seconds, and KEEP MOVING THE STEEL up and down, so you don't create heat pockets in the oil, that will mess up your heattreat.

Your cheap wrenches are probably Chrome-Vanadium, which comes in several varieties. The kind tools are made of, particularly cheap ones, doesn't get as hard, even as hard as similar compositions of Chrome-Vanadium with different end uses in mind. You might actually want to get these bad bois ripping hot yellow and quench in water, locking in that martensite where you can get it. Water quenches faster than oil, so that "slow" cooling in oil is letting that relatively small percentage of martensite transition down into softer phases. Gonna need a good long temper afterwards or those beauties are gonna blow up when they hit something.

Hey Eli, when you go to quench steel make sure you wiggle the piece around in the oil. You gotta keep it moving so it gets a uniform cooling. The heat can actually cause the oil/water to boil so fast that it isn't touching the piece. At least that's what I see yelled about the most. Also, you probably know this already, but I'd bet those wrenches are made form 01 Tool steel. I think the hardening process is a little different for 01 from high carbon steel.

Please don't use sandpaper on a lathe like that Eli, wrapping your hand around the part and crossing the sandpaper over itself. I work with lathes for a living and using sandpaper can be very dangerous if the proper precautions aren't taken. Your technique from 3:29 - 3:32 is the safe way to do it. At 3:33 when you had your hands underneath the work piece and at 3:35 when you had your hand wrapped around the work piece, with the sandpaper between your hand and the work piece, you were exposing yourself to the unnecessary risk of losing or seriously injuring your hand or arm. You could be losing temper from the residual heat in the large mass of the tang and guard, since that part is exposed to the heat but isn't being quenched. Another possibility is that that steel might need a more rapid cool down to set into martensite, thus needing water rather than oil. Since what I've read so far, husky uses chromoly steel in some of their wrenches, but since i don't know the exact model you have i don't know for sure. I would try testing the blade for magnetism while in the forge, and when the steel has reached a non-magnetic state (Called Austenite, and usually occurs around 1600F or a dark orange heat), quench the blade in water for about 2-3 seconds, and then submerging the whole thing in oil for a good 30 seconds to a minute. This would allow for a little faster cool down than just oil, and would allow the entire mass of steel to cool thus preventing residual heat from ruining the temper. But that's just an idea, love the H*CK out of your vids bro.

My dog might die soon, so not cool bro. Also, need an editor in central Illinois? Edit Ever thought of having a fan (preferably this one) drive up and give you some help with a sword build? Also, waiting on this tax return to give you a thicc donation,

Knowing KZitem, they're probably taking the ad money from 2, maybe even 3 ads, and giving him the pennies one ad makes, or he just gets demonetized. I've heard stories of some tv critics reviewing an episode from a show getting their video claimed and all while the legal stuff is going down the person that claimed the video is making all the money.

Certain steels need to be quenched in water. Also, when quenching it helps to move the weapon around in the oil to cool it a bit quicker.
