I just want to point out that I'm not a professional at garage doors, but this is what happened and how we fixed it. Hopefully if you have a very similar problem this will help you out.
After pulling the emergency release to open the garage door during a blackout we noticed afterwards when the power came back the garage door would close bounce off the bottom and open. We researched all over the internet. Cleaned the light sensors, greased/oiled the springs and hinges and even reprogrammed the Marantec M4500e several times. We adjusted the force up and force down settings as well as the sensitivity settings. Nothing worked. The error code flagged that the RPM sensor was faulty. Opening and looking inside the Marantec unit revealed that nothing was out of the ordinary. Capacitors were fine, wires in good condition, and no obvious obstructions. Finally we discovered that the position tab on the belt had fallen off and the system had no way to determine when the door was closed or open aside from running the door to the hard stops at the top and at the bottom. We ordered a replacement tab, installed it and everything works fine again.
We ordered a replacement part here:

I'm not affiliated with this company at all and this isn't any kind of partnership with them or sponsorship. This video is just to help anyone else out there that might be having trouble with this exact same model garage opener since we couldn't find anyone specifically addressing this issue.
