When your hair is barely an inch long stretched and you've decided to do micro locs with afro kinky human hair 😩. Send help!
AnyhoodleI... here are some fun facts about me:
1) I've known how to braid neatly since I was 4 yrs old.
2) I grew up in a traditional beauty parlor/ hair salon back in the 90s. My babysitter's mom was a salon owner who taught me how to braid with extensions when I was 9 yrs old.
3) I've been braiding my own hair without using a mirror since I was 13. I use my fingertips as a guide. I have never been concerned with neat parts on my own hair, so I don't bother to complicate the process with multiple mirrors.
4) I started to practice different braiding styles because my hair was breaking due to chemical relaxers and lack of proper hair care. Over time, I learned how to maintain protective styles while transitioning back to natural hair and trimming my hair whenever I saw clear signs of split ends. This was during my early teens.
5) I've always loved kinky hair! I use to buy braiding magazines and study different parting styles. I also taught myself how to do faux locs, kinky twists, pick n drop braids with 100% wet n wavy human hair, and poetic justice braids with burnt ends.
6) I always desired to look as natural as possible, but I didn't always feel comfortable due to societal norms and expectations when it comes to kinky and coarse textured hair. When I accepted my kinks and coils, I started to accept every other part of myself. I no longer wanted to conform. I didn't want to apply heat or chemicals in order to look presentable. I just wanted to be free.
7) I express myself through my hair. It is the one thing I will change often depending on my mood. I don't have any attachment to a given style. It's just hair for me.
If you've gotten this far, thank you for reading ❤️.
