Frequently Asked Questions: 1. What clay do you use? I use a paper clay. I either buy it or make my own depending on what I want to create 2. What's the difference between the bought paper clay ( amzn.to/2r5FEHY ) and the homemade paper clay (A) kzitem.info/news/bejne/raGPrZp4s5F-h4o (B) kzitem.info/news/bejne/wHuck4lsmox2on4 )? The homemade one is not that soft and is only good for textured surfaces like stones and tree bark. It is very cheap to make so it might worth to sand it and work it a little more than buying a paper clay. However, you can't keep it more than 5 to 7 days in the fridge. It has the best consistency when you just made it and it's fresh, so I would recommend you use it in the same day or the next and don't make more than you need 3. Can I use air dry clay? What's the difference between air dry clay and paper clay? Often times shops will sell both paper clay and ceramic clay with the same label "air dry clay". It's true, both are air hardening but there are quite a few differences: air dry clay(ceramic clay) is actually mud, natural clay, while paper clay is made with cellulose and other ingredients. Paper clay is stronger than air dry clay(ceramic clay). Air dry clay (ceramic clay) shrinks and the paper clay does not shrink. This is why paper clay is the better choice for my kind of projects. My projects usually require you to cover a jar or a plastic bottle. If the air dry clay shrinks and the bottle or jar remain the same size... you guessed it... your air dry clay will crack all around. It might be a lot cheaper but it's not what you need for these projects. 4. My clay cracks, how do you cover the cracks? You don't, you change your air dry clay to a paper clay! See why at the previous question 5. How to waterproof my paper clay creations? I recommend using a yacht varnish. Apply a few coats and make sure you cover it all around so no water touches your clay 6. What brand of paper clay do you use? I use "Das modelling material" - amzn.to/2r5FEHY 7. Where can I see the list of materials? As a general rule of my channel... READ MY VIDEO DESCRIPTIONS! I write it for you guys, is no secret what I use. For every video I write a description of what I do and what I use. 8. Do you sell your creations? No, not yet, my daughter loves them too much. 9. What colors do you use? I mostly use watercolors and acrylic paint.

You could put one of those super-bright LED discs (or even just the fake candles) inside to make it appear like lights are shining through the windows. You could also frost the windows by stippling a bit of white acrylic inside the glass (this is great for dispersing the light)!

Hi again! I started making some of these little houses last weekend - I have used spice jars for two of the miniature houses and a jam jar for the other one - so three houses in the pipeline at the moment! I bought some air dry clay that Hobbycraft here in the UK are selling (it's made specifically for their shops - calleld "British air drying clay"). I found that it cracked a lot during drying and I had to keep repairing with watered down clay and a paintbrush (to paint into the cracks to 'glue' them back together again). At one stage the entire side of the house fell off the jar! I think I've fixed the problems now - I'm drying my houses under plastic, slowly. I will get Das clay next time and see if it's better to use. I can make my own polymer clay but I don't want to do a polymer clay house until I've perfected the technique. It's a really great project. My daughter suggested making a mini-Pub with a slate tiled roof, so that's my next project (complete with hanging sign). I wanted to ask you if you would be able to make a church out of jars? You are so talented, I think a stone church would look fantastic in clay. Anyway, thank you very much for your tutorials and being so giving with your knowledge and skills - your videos are brilliant and this is such a fun project. Can't wait for the summer holidays to show my grandchildren how to make something like this! Thanks again. Sorry for the long message :)

+Janice Scott Oh, I'm sorry that your clay cracked. It's probably a natural clay and it shrinks when the water evaporates(it's clay, soil, great when making ceramic, but when you cover something, it will always crack). It will always crack no matter what you do. Das is a special clay that uses paper cellulose and a glue, it smells funny but It never shrinks. If you can't find it there I think Kohinoor had a similar clay maybe you find that one.

I made a toad house about a month and a half ago out of an empty honey jar that looked similar to the one you made here. I used air dry clay then didn't realize that you couldn't put it outside because it would disintegrate. I haven't finished painting it yet because I was bummed that I couldn't put it near my waterfall outside. Any suggestions on how air dry clay can be used in outdoor decor? Is there a sealant you can recommend? Very cute and I love your painting! Great job! I've subscribed!

@Basketcase180

Ms. Xyz Paul glue gun is a one time buy. The glue sticks can be bought in bulk for fairly cheap, and each creation might use one glue stick, if that. Aluminum foil can be purchased at the dollar store and last for months. Paints, depending on the type you buy, really aren’t that expensive, either. At most, metallic paints from your typical craft store might be anywhere from $3 - $5 for the smaller size and (again) last for quite a few projects. So, in short, yes, these projects are very inexpensive. Anything in this world costs some amount of money, but for the amount you spend on the supplies for these houses and how many you can crank out with everything, it’s very, very cheap. Of course, I suppose even $15 - $25 is expensive to someone.

Hi, i tried this today and loved it until it started drying and flaking off of the jar. I used air dry white clay from Joanns. Did I do something wrong?
@CreativeMom
8 жыл бұрын
+jodie lupine hi, unfortunately not all air-dry clays are good. The natural ones shrink when dry and if you covered something with it results in cracks. I used "das modelling material" google it or try to use a cellulose based clay, a paper clay. Have fun!

@CreativeMom
8 жыл бұрын
+butter cup Paper clay might work just fine, das is also cellulose based. As long as it doesn't shrink it won't crack on your jar. Natural air dry clays do that, never try those on jars, you'll work in vain, it will crack when drying. Have fun with your little houses!

+namisha sinha Hi, thank you. I used "Das modelling material" it doesn't need baking, is cheap and strong in the end. For small jars you can use polymer, but for bigger jars, like the one in my last video it would be too expensive I think. Have fun!

Спасибо. В этом видео я использовал «Das modelling material», но в моих последних видео я использовал самодельную бумажную глину. Вы можете проверить его, а также можете посмотреть мое видео о том, как сделать эту бумажную глину.
