A pocket survival kit is always a useful item to have WITH you. The problem with survival kits is that if they are too large you won't usually carry them. This is the latest in a long line of endeavors to make a pocket sized kit and this one also has a shelter. Thanks for watching and please leave me a comment in the section below!

Nice oops kit though I have trouble handling small items. Also interesting hobo diy videos. What I don't see is hobo, DIY footwear, shoe repair on the fly, upgrading or wear prevention/life extension. Sometimes you have to buy the cheap stuff. How do you make them last longer before you start wearing them? The weld seam separates, how do you reglue it back together? Shoe glue doesn't always work. And don't use super glue. Nasty reaction with certain materials. The cloth liner in the inside wears out first. Gorilla tape doesn't work. Won't stay in place. Why couldn't they have used ripstop? How would you armour the cloth before it shreds your socks? The hollow core soles wear thin or crack. How do you patch, fill in, or pre armour the bottom? Shoe goo isn't always reliable. Is it possible to layer on some vulcanizable rubber? If so how would you go about it? Finding plain leather boots without all the fluff like in days of old is really hard. A lot easier to fix too. Then there is the do it yourself shoe/moccasin or boot making. That's a scary thought. But shoes are necessary for us tenderfeet. So how would you tackle these problems? I would love to see that or those videos.

I find mini pocket kits intriguing. It's amazing how many things can be packed into an Altoids tin. Years ago, two friends and I went for a walk in the Adirondack mountains. We followed an established trail but the two of them wanted to take a "short cut" through the woods. We had no survival gear on us. I vehemently refused to go and fortunately logic and reason prevailed. We all followed the trail and eventually got back to camp even though the "shortcut" would have been "much quicker" according to my friends. A couple of small kits would have been nice to have if I did not persuade them to stay on the trail.

Yes it always amazing me how many people go on walks in the wilderness with nothing, just a phone ha. I don't even leave the house without food water & spare clothing. People will make fun of you saying why carry all that stuff, but then they are the ones who ask for a plaster or pain killer or a torch or a blade to cut something = smug look on your face.

Hey that’s really cool James! I chew lots of sugarless gum. Either trident or extra. I have several of these containers! I use one gum container for a water resistant wallet. I used to be a dishwasher, and my leather wallet kept getting wet, so I use a plastic container. It’s also good for keeping your things dry from your sweat. I would do things a little different, food isn't an immediate need in survival, water is. I would replace the fishing stuff with water purification. Remember the rule of threes- 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food. Water is much higher priority.
@WayPointSurvival
3 жыл бұрын
As I answered in another statement, I can always find a container on every roadway water way or lake. So, I have ways to make a fire so I can boil the water. Fishing gives you something to do when you are bored. Plus, it gives you the option of getting something in your stomach. I understand the priorities of survival quite well as I teach them regularly in my classes. Thank you for watching and for sharing what you would do differently!
@MrDwanehoward

@@WayPointSurvival In some environments you would not necessarily be able to find a container, like deep in the woods or in the middle of the desert. Don't want to leave things to chance. Personally I prefer water purification tablets, but to each their own.
@WayPointSurvival

True, but I can always use the fire to shape out a container as I have done it multiple times. As well as the fact that I've boiled water in such a container using hot rocks. And, even in most desert areas there is some type of wood that can be used.

@@apocosy Another good and fairly tough compact bag is the one you get where they sell live fish for your aquarium at home. They have to hold water and be on the tougher side to transport live fish. I've asked them and they'll give a few usually. For water treatment, I use potassium permanganate. It's not the best by any stretch of the imagination, but is so compact for the huge amount of water it can treat, and has a forever shelf life, that it just makes too much sense not to have it in such small compact kits. I store it in the hollow tube of a plastic coffee stir straw about two inches long, and I have enough PP to treat more water than I'll ever need. I even carry a straw filled with PP in my wallet micro kit as well. Keep up the great work.

Ok. Had to leave a comment. I have about 10k miles of trail, and have slept more in my tent in the past 5 years than my bed. So, I have a little experience. I have seen a lot of these survival kits on many channels and I think this is the first one I have seen that puts a mini bic in. I can't take any of them serious if they don't include this most useful of fire making tools. You have multiple fire starting methods, which is always good to have, and honestly a really good basic kit! I have seen the "Shelter" type before, and I really don't think they're sturdy enough to rely on, but in a pinch, for a night or two it will do. A few suggestions, you might add some ammonium pills, which you could easily fit in with your Advil , and possibly a few drops of bleach for some drinkable water. I think both would fit in there. And instead of having your shelter in that bag, use a heavy duty plastic ziplock (Plymor) you could also encase the whole kit in one if it was easier. It would fit your shelter, and also double as a small receptacle for water. Just wanted to give you props for a really well thought out kit.

Spray paint the knife a bright color, put a couple of Exacto knife blades or a single edge razor blade into kit. Also a small treble hook and pre- thread the needle incase you are incapacitated in some way and need to see yourself up. Harbor freight sells multi packs of small tubes of super glue that could be used to close a bad wound, if you could cram a small tube into kit. I think this is a great kit. I carry razor blade and bandaids in my wallet, small leatherman multi tool on my keychain. Also a small pill box with one days medication which can be halved if necessary for two days. The Nano light can be duct taped to your hat or the side of eyeglasses like a head lamp👍👍👍 just imagine what you could put into a small Fanny pack.

It's impressive you've put that much thought an effort into that carry kit. Skills and knowledge will always far outweigh anything anyone could carry. Thanks for making the video.

Hello. James Cool mini kit with shelter :) Easy enough to add into one's pocket, and give a little more to work with. It's nice to have a backpack of supplies , but there may be times that one doesn't have access to it. This twist on/off light , it maybe possible to improvise that into a whistle( would have to try tho) . All the best and stay safe my friend from CR.

ok...going down the rabbit hole...watching more of your videos...lol. would you be able to squeeze in a ziploc bag and a couple aquatabs? just in case you need to get water,

That would be a good idea, but my thought was that I can always find a glass bottle that I can boil water in and carve a wooden stopper to close it up with. The only exception to that would be if I were in a desert area and obviously I would want to have water with me. This little kit is just so that you can have something to make it easier and with multiple ways to make fire, boiling water should be easy to do. Especially, as I know different ways to boil water without using a store-bought container.

Nice kit. Why not use a tobacco tin? Then you would have a tin to cook in. I made my kit so many years ago I have forgotten what is in it? Will have to bust it open soon. Thanks for posting.

I like how you consistently revert to cross-loaded survival gear. Usually I either wear a slender profile fanny pack (belt under the belt on my pack) or carry a comprehensive kit that’s broken into 2 modules w/ each part contained in the .5” up dimension “Altoids style” tin that are sold on Amazon. Quick note on my choice of tins: by selecting that extra 1/2” on each side of the box (including depth) it opens up to significantly better tools than the constricted Altoids tin affords. Half of the kit goes into each back pocket, 2 neatly folded contractors liners in 1 cargo pocket, an emergency tarp in the other. It all rounds out w/ my complete Bible, NKJV, pocket edition. Why the Bible? I know my mind & sans the Word I’m likely to start seeing the Big Bad Wolf in every fire flicker; especially if injured. Add to these my belt knife (Buck 119) my folder (Buck 110), my multi tool (Leatherman Wave) a Coast AAA light and 30 foot hank of 275 cord and I’m well equipped to handle a few bad nights waiting for SAR. A quick word on signaling: I carry a rechargeable laser pen in the same pocket as my flashlight. Even put SOS on it w/ a P-Touch. How many stories do we hear of air assets who cannot see the victim? Throw this bad boy at their 2 o’clock they’re going to see you. Weight? No more than a tactical pen. Almost forgot the mist important survival tool: TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOURE HEADED/ WHAT TIME TO EXPECT YOU. Keep up the fine work, James 👍🏼

I wouldn't take a whole pocket Bible - I'd take simply the Proverbs and Psalms. Good reading under any circumstances.

I carry something similar, no shelter though, I'll have to look into that. I use ranger bands to close my tins, they burn better.
