I must admit, I have watched this video 3 times on 3 different days over the past 2 weeks.. This is the best DIY booth that I have seen. I will be building one using your design with the exception of one thing. I have 10 foot ceilings in my garage. So, I was thinking of placing my fan on top of the booth for two reasons. 1. I can pull the filters up a little higher. 2. It makes it easier to get to if I have to do maintenance to the fan if needed. Do you see any issues with this thought process? Based on your comments below, I may go ahead and add the 2nd fan and 2 more filters as well.

That’s awesome man, glad I could help! I don’t see any issues with what you’re wanting to do. That would be the only thing I wish I could have done differently was to raise the filters but I didn’t have the ceiling height to do so. If you have the funds for an extra fan and filters I say go for it now rather then having to rebuild later. Depending on the size of your booth the fans also have a low setting you can run them on. If you have any others questions feel free to reach out. Good luck on your booth!

Very cool build and great design. I modified slightly as I'm not spraying powder coating but waterbased lacquer. Where I live its well over 100 degrees for 6 months a year and if I vent to the outside, the makeup air coming takes my shop from 75 degrees to 100 degrees in a few minutes so I wanted a recirculating paint booth. I used almost the same design but I put a panel pre-filters in the opening in front of the cartridges and then I used charcoal cartridges to get the fumes. I find I can spray for about 1 to 2 hours in my 1000 sq. ft. shop and then I have to let it clear for a couple hours. Cartridges last a few months. In cooler weather, I'll remove the cartridges and vent to the outside. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thank you! I’m using a Gema Optiflex 2 box fed system and it has been great for me. I started out with a hyper smooth 02 LED and it is a night and day difference in powder transfer to parts. I would definitely recommend it or at least a pro level gun if you can swing the cost.

I've been inspired to build my own booth similar to yours. You did a great job. Materials a little bit more expensive today but that's inflation I guess. My question is about cutting the sheet metal. I have a electric shear and I find it difficult to use. I see you use an air shear. I've tried other ways to cut the sheet metal including a diamond wheel. Do you have experience with an electric shear and am I better off with the air shear? Thanks for your help.

Hi, how are you accessing the fan if you need to get to it? Where is the fan exhaust going? Is it trapped in the top portion?
@royalcoatspowdercoating
2 жыл бұрын
Not really a need for me to access the fan unless it were to go out but I can get access from the top or pull it away from the wall. I exhaust it back into other part of the shop through a ventilation tube. Exhausting through a wall or attic is the best option to keep air movement down in the shop.

Awesome video man. Best booth video I've seen. Couple questions... what was ran through the filters? Was that the all thread? What was it's purpose? And my other main question was, when the air is ran through the filters, is your fan mounted above them pushing clean air back into the shop? Thanks!
@royalcoatspowdercoating
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Yes that’s all thread ran through the filters with a washer and nut on the bottom which holds the filters in place. The fan is mounted on top of the filter box that pulls the powder to the filters and then blows the clean air back into the shop.

@royalcoatspowdercoating

Right now I’m at about 75cfm per square foot of opening, 100cfm is the rule of thumb. Only thing I would have liked to have been able to do would be to mount the filters higher where I spray majority of my parts but I wasn’t able to with my ceiling height in my garage. Sometimes when I spray a heavy cloud of a light weight clear some will float out but get sucked back in to the filters. I may add another fan in the future but all in all it has turned out to be a great booth so far for the money.
