This is an awesome demo of how acoustic panels make a difference. I will be sure to add them to my new media room

That room with the Hvac drop is almost identical to my theater space. I think have 9ft to the highest point. I am going to put a false wall on the screen wall as I have a step / ledge on that wall (foundation to walls) that offests the lower and upper wall seconds by about 4". Thinking I will frame the wall and then fill with roxul and cover with a transparent fabric (no drywall just the framing and roxul held in there then a slight airgap between that and the existing wall space). That way I have a flat wall for my cinegray Aeon screen and back lighting. That should control the boundary surfaces a bit and provide a good amount if absorption without killing the room (don't want a dead room). The side walls pretty much copying what you did. Thanks for the vid!!!! Shocking that only 4 panels made that difference with the room sound.

Extremely helpfull! But just one thought, did you add panels for the surrounds as well? In that case do we sit facing the back wall and check for the refection points?

The one other thing I am planning to do with the panel is create a small spacer to movem them off the wall about an inch or so. Part of this for back lighting with LED straps, but also I have been curious how that airgap would effect the panel. Will have to try to do some room measurements with and without the gap with REW. I have also debated leaving the wood frame exposed (inset wrapping the rockwool) and cutting a pattern through the side to create more air openings (I have access to wood shop with a CNC router system).

yea I would be curious too if the gap would affect performance of the panel

If I remember right, it has been said that say a 4” panel with 4” gap acts as a 8” panel, so it’s a cheaper way to get more and lower absorption. I think Dr Toole, Gene at Audioholics, and Anthony Grimani, have all talked about this.

Good video. Thanks for sharing. How did you determine the size of the panels needed to be 2' x 4'?
@The.Home.Cinema.Engineer
4 жыл бұрын
thanks! those panel dimensions are in line with panels you can buy from most panel manufactures. There are websites that can help calculate this but that is getting very technical. Basically you would have to start calculating frequency wavelengths.

Does the fabric used for the covering need to be of a specific type? Can it be thicker, like velvet, or does it need to be thinner?
@The.Home.Cinema.Engineer

Thin would be best something breathable with a weave that’s not to tight

Great video! Can you please add a link to where you’ve purchased Rockwool?
Do you just need to cover the level of the tweeter and not worry about the mids? I would have thought your panels were a bit high considering ear level and speaker level.
@The.Home.Cinema.Engineer

no its pretty common to place them in the middle height wise. Mid frequencies will also cause issues and echos

What if we put big size panels or 2-3 more panels on walls? What if we spend more money & put panels everywhere in the room, will that work better?

it depends every room is different and has different room treatment needs. I would look up videos on youtube about room acoustics. look up the channel Acoustic fields

Hi sir I have seen some good ecoustic panels on your walls I am constructing my preview lab for my personal use, I am a cinematographer from INDIA I use to work on projects like films, ads, corporate films and weddings, I am planning to bring this benq 5700 to my new preview lab, I am here to ask you some suggestions about installing those kind of diy ecoustic panels, I am going with denon 2600Av receiver and polk audio signature series with 7.1 atmos, my room size is 15ft width and 35ft breadth and 10ft height leaving the sealing, so can you pls suggest can I go with the same kind of panels in my room without any complete acoustic treatment as it costs too much for me, I am planning to make my own DIY panels with rockwool installed in them, will those panels help me out with the reverb and also blocking out the sound without going out of this room.
@The.Home.Cinema.Engineer

yes you can use the same panels I built. your room is about the same size as mine so you'll need at least 8-12 panels. Just do the clap test with your hands or wood blocks to see how much reveb your room has cheers

Be aware, acoustic treatment will not stop sound from leaving the room. That process is much more expensive. Staggered 2x4 studs in the wall on a 2x6 base-with loose fitting insulation in it( 5/8 drywall on both sides).

What is the difference between using rock wool.Vs fiber glass for panels?
@The.Home.Cinema.Engineer
4 жыл бұрын
well rockwool insulation is about 2 times more dense the fiberglass making it much better at absorbing any given frequencies. there's even a section on there website that tells you how much it deafness certain frequencies
