Nice video on the diffraction grating! If you tempered the chocolate the effect might last for longer. Tempering involves forcing a stable crystal structure to form. I know that many chocolate makers and chocolatiers are experimenting with this these days. Its funny because you have the physics knowledge, they have the chocolate knowledge. I am hoping to make a video that will bridge the gaps.

Yes, my guess is that you're right, though I haven't tried. Best of luck on your experiments with chocolate! Let me know how it turns out!

This would be a great little trick for chocolatiers or patissiers!

The same thought crossed my mind, but the effect sadly didn't last long: I took it outside to record the video in the sun. It was cold out and gathered a little condensation when it came back inside. No more rainbow. They'd have to figure out how to store it carefully.

@@ChemistryinaNutshell Hhmm, maybe a very thin shell of diffraction grating gelatin, or sugar? I feel an experiment coming on...
