I like leaving the nail heads in the boards as they add a lot of character.

Can you just use construction adhesive to glue down the pallet wood onto painted concrete wall? Will it hold?
@archenema6792
3 жыл бұрын
I use them, with some reclaimed plastic sheeting, to make mini greenhouses. The amount of mold resistant resins can vary widely from pallet to pallet, though, with variable rates of aerosolized emission of these compounds, as well. I wouldn't recommend anything built from them for indoor use.

Yes brad nail or if you want a more discreet nail appearance, one can use a finishing nail gun with perhaps a 16 mil nail for this application shown in the video.

Hi my question is regarding the moldy or green pieces. if one of that piece gets intalled then what should one do, and do they pose any termite issues in the house.
@nikrbawker
2 жыл бұрын
no real issues, keep your eyes peeled while working on it and living it. kill the bugs with known methods. A house that is climate controlled and lived well in can be rid of pests pretty easily.

Great job...how many pallets did it take to finish this wall feature?
@codyphinney9256

Depends on the room, It takes alot, but, NOT AS MUCH AS YOU’D THINK, have to remember. Pallets are 3-4 feet long....thats it. So to do a room 12x12. (144 Sq/Ft) you figure pallets are 4-5 boards (well do math with 4 for arguments sake, UNLESS you use the bottom boards and side boards, however, they aren’t same size AND they’re ALWAYS cut for the forklifts blades) anways, so figure, 4 boards @ 4 ft long. Thats 16 sq/ft per pallet(worse case, obviously some palets have 5/6/7/8+ boards, just going with 4 for WORST CASE), anyways, 144 / 16 = 9. However, factor in you cut them to size, and you’re going to “offset the seam” might as well add an extra 3-4 pallets. So to do a SMALL 12x12 closet. It’ll take around 12-13 pallets. To do an average size Living room or Master bedroom.....(if covering Floor to Ceiling) talking around 24-26ish pallets.

Just curious Abt reclaiming pallet wood. Did you consider the type of pallet wood you got? Does it contain chemicals or how to get rid of it as you prep to reuse it?
@camcordernonsense5264
Жыл бұрын
after my boss told me about chemicals in pallets I did not want to use them. nasty stuff. I looked into the chemical that was banned and someone is bringing it back? there's burned markings on origin of pallets. codes letting you know how it was treated or not. kiln dried, chemicals, no chemicals etc. some of the oldies are still in use. or some don't have markings at all. off gaming is mentioned. sawdust from pallet boards with chemicals. ehhhh. kinda glad I didn't start anything yet. I've been lurking around recycled pallet board videos hoping to see others addressing this.

Pallet wood is often weathered and you can find it in all different shades, that's probably just how the wood was.

Nice effect. Mate save yourself some work. Cut thru the nails with a demo saw to seperate the slats. Leave some/all of the nail heads or just cut off the nail sections without removing the nails first.
@Longbow06

Spot on! Sawzall with the right blades make breaking down the pallets way faster with less damage. Plus it leaves more material to use on the wall. Not critical of his work, just a different perspective.

Looks great and good job. However, you shouldn't be using pallet wood because of the chemicals. You never know what's been delivered with those pallets. Then there's tons of mould on them. It would be a disaster using them indoors.

It looks nice but i would never feel like the wall is clean enough... i mean for dust over time. The small gaps between boards and deep grain in the wood would always hold dust and possibly random mess if you have kids! It would just bother me more n more over time and I would enjoy it less
