UPDATE!! I found that the adhesive on the industrial-strength velcro you can get at Walmart works better than what I show here.

And the idea travels well- such as to a jon boat or any king of fishing boat. Thanks for the idea.

I like the east way the Velcro can be moved to fit different tools A LOT

I agree with david. I envision kicking or having a fish flip the entire removeable tool holder over the side. I tether or retain every thing that does not float. That is one thing about a Hobie. It has built in tool slots and tethers and attachment points in the cockpit.

Nice hack! We have overpriced tool caddy/bin containers for our Hobie PA which mounts on the round(ish) rails. They are also removable, but Hobie is very proud of their stuff. We just got some used pedal kayaks from a kayak rental place and were going to rig them up for our needs (they can be launched from spots where the 250+ lb PA17 can't launch). I was probably going to go with making a tool box out of a Harbor Freight ammo box since it is sealed and would be movable. The hacks you showed here and the previous video would work well on the box (both inside and out) to hold tools and would also be movable for when they aren't needed. The handle can be tethered to the boat in case of a boat flip and/or could have additional floatation to keep it from sinking where the tools would otherwise be lost. On my list of to-do's which may just outlive me 😂

Great idea! I’m with David on tethering the box. I know me..I’d knock the whole thing overboard. I use those cutting boards often. You can make excellent rudders and skegs with them. Have a great week Steve! Thanks a lot. 👌👍👍

I like the concept, and I can understand the hesitation about adding further holes into your kayak with a permanent installation. However, if I've learned anything over the years.... if you want to keep something while in your kayak, tether it down. I'd attach that strap to your t-mounts, and not just have it hang over. That would also provide a nice place to connect the tethers, which should be attached to your pliers, knife, etc. I ended up installing another pad-eye to the starboard side of my kayak (I'm right handed) and used 3M Tape to secure finger-sized earth magnets. My scissors and pliers are held in place with the magnets, no problem. I found it also a great place to leave lures/hooks without cluttering the bottom of my fishing kayak.

Rivet the Velcro to the HDPE. I haven’t found an adhesive yet that both works and is affordable.

@@KayakhacksFishing use two pieces 3/4" srtrapping and install an eyelet on each strap and rivet the other end to the cutting board
