Creating your own jetboard or efoil build is a dream for many aspiring DIY developers! Today we meet Frank and Julian from Germany who created one of the most unusual efoils in the world based on a sniper rifle case which not only works great but also became one of the most affordable builds! Frank and Julian are going to share their insights and tips on how you can create your own efoil from scratch!

Shape could be added later with sponsons, after the initial build and testing

Yeah we got many suggestions to decrease the hydrodynamic resistance but this would also result in a massiv drop of the coolness factor. I'm riding this weapon of mass consumption for nearly a year right now and don't miss the advantages of a "normal" board ;)

Why not use E-Bike batteries in parallel? Or use 3, one for each phase?

Wow...where should i start? Let's talk numbers compared to 3 "Hailong 13s5p" ebike batteries in parallel: DIY Battery - Ebike Battery 1580Wh vs 1680Wh 7,5kg vs 15kg 500€ vs 860€ 6dm³ vs 11dm³ 120A vs 90A IP67 vs "waterproof" 2h charging vs 7h charging Other disadvantages are the use of cheap cells instead of our Samsung 30q and the laborious handling of three batteries instead of one. "But ebike batteries have BMS keeping the cells safe?!" - Yes, but the most protection params are realized by the vesc motorcontroler and my professional hobbycharger. It would also be easy to add a nice smart BMS for 150€ to our battery but it's not common in the diy efoil community for some reasons. All in all it is possible to use ebike batteries but the disadvantages outweigh the advantages in my opinion.

"Or use 3, one for each phase?" I don't understand this question, every brushless motor is connected to a motorcontroller which needs one powersource

@@maxmustermann170 hi thanks for the input. I have been following many DIY builds and only just come accross this build. Seems very cool. I saw the guy in the UK and other Holland I think this year I should start my efoil/esurf build. Coming from Ebike world I have spares batteries and when I go on longer rides it's always nice being able to change batteries and back on the road. I have this idea but I am not sure how impractical it would be. I use many DeWalt and Ryobi tools, DeWalt have a flexvolt platform that can deliver up to 54v, Ryobi have 18v batteries some tools allow the use of 2x18v to achieve 36v, would It be possible to hack an efoil using tools batteries?!

@@makaveli7771 I thought about that, too. Like using eBike battery this option has the same disadvantages. If anyone would sponsor me a bag full of tool batteies i probably would try it in the name of science ;) Where are you from?

@@maxmustermann170 Thanks for the great input. Would it be nowadays smarter to use 21700 cells. Is there a battery build video or series you could recommend? Thanks men. All the best :)
