My husband has done concrete for 40 years. We are adding and addition to the cabin this year and have been struggling with what kind of siding to tie into our log cabin that will look organic and not just an addition. THIS IS IT!! We have decided to use your tutorial and try our hand at it. We're going to start with wrapping the 4 feet of block wall first. By the time we're ready to put the walls on, we should be pros! Thank you for unselfishly sharing your knowledge and creativity so the rest of us can benefit from it. You and your team are a blessing!

So my questions: 1. What PAINT did you use to paint the concrete? 2. How will this weather over time? My concern, is being outside, the paint will begin to fade, and now its just concrete rocks... 3. Sealant? Did you use any? 4. Heat resistancy? You used it behind the woodstove... 5. COST? Is it really worth it? Vs stone veneer. 6. Is a vibratory leveller REALLY needed, or was this just an afterthought? Looks GREAT! Thank you!

@@StoneCoatCountertops Maybe stairs with bullnose detail(?) Will the sand act as a 'non-slip' step surface? Or, make a mold and use sand/epoxy to make a lamp base. How about use the fake stone mold to make 'hidden house key' stones to hide near the front door. Embed an old electrical outlet box in the underside for the 'hidden box' part. :-) That's all I can think of atm.
@cchastant8251
3 жыл бұрын
@@ccgsales Sand + epoxy will NOT be non-slip. Maybe if the sand is dusted on when the resin is set enough the sand won't sink in, but is still tacky enough to hold... maybe. But it would still chance detaching. I tried some small mixes in molds of sand + epoxy, and they came out slick, like the mold, with a couple of very small gaps, as if a bit of sand just wasn't there. Since I was using them to make kitchen magnets, you'll understand this wasn't an issue for me, but still meant I could give you an answer. I did try mixing sand + epoxy and spreading it thin. That might work (MAYBE) with large enough grit, and thin enough epoxy coat, but it will break down fairly quickly, so I don't really recommend using it for a non-slip surface. I've heard of using super glue and sand... but that was for use on shoes themselves. I hope you find an answer that will work for you. Cheers!

I have a question. I want to make a mold of a plastic seashell bowl I have. I want to make a seashell vessel sink. The only way I know to do it is a sand mold, but that will not give me a smooth top and underside. Would the epoxy and Sand mixture be a better sink??? HELP??????? I live in Florida, so a seashell is a must. I watched the river rock mold making...very interesting. I was trying to figure out how you were going to make rocks out epoxy...then I realized you were making faux rocks out of concrete. Very cool. I really like the window trim. Good job. PLEASE help me with this sink...
@cchastant8251
3 жыл бұрын
Is the top edge of your bowl even? If so, you should be able to easily fill it with wet sand, set up a mold box with wet sand, and with care, flip your filled bowl upside down on the sand in the mold box, settling in snug, so the mold maker won't leak into the inside of the bowl. My only concern would be if the wet sand would keep the mold maker from setting. The water should keep the mold maker from seeping too much into the sand. Set a couple of mold matching "marks" into the sand, pulling out whatever you've used to make those marks before pouring in your mold maker. Follow instructions for making a two-part mold to shape the inside surface. Once you've completed and cast your mold, you can drill out drain hole(s) as needed, and recast if needed. I haven't tried this.I suggest trying a smaller version first, to see how it works out first, then seeing if you're good to go for your larger project. Best wishes on it turning out fabulous!

Since you went over the concrete with level-quick (in the first step), I think you didn't need to use concrete in the first place. Probably could have used sand, or even just dirt.
@cchastant8251
3 жыл бұрын
I'd go with sand, personally. No telling what might be in "dirt." (grins) I'm thinking animals, mostly, but also twigs and such that might be vexing. However, the way SCC made this mold means that they only have to rescrew the walls back around this base to make a new mold, should anything (such as wear and tear) happen to this first mold. Sand or dirt would require you to reset your rocks, most likely. If that didn't matter, you could do as you suggested, certainly. Probably would take less time, if you'll only need the mold done once, ever.
