it makes a great knife handle for boning knives because when wet it's not slippery. It's a hardwood and in Japan chopsticks made from persimmon are very expensive but durable.

From what I read, it is beautiful and furniture grade, known as "American ebony" bc the Heartwood stains black... Its, tough on tools though... I'm excited bc we burn wood and just loaded up a green one. I read it warps easily when drying so I'm hoping we can take steps to minimize that if we might mill it. Also, as properly seasoned firewood it has higher BTUs than shagbark hickory. I do know from experience that the dried leaves make excellent tea! I serve persimmon sweet tea to company and everyone is always amazed!

By the way how did your persimmon boards cure out? That type of board is a little tricky and also holly tree. If you ever make a turkey call you need to start with 2x2 blocks about 10 inches long.

Brother Mark I use persimmon wood for making turkey calls. It’s a good hard dense wood and makes a good sounding turkey call box. I would use maybe walnut for the lid. I would love to see if you could make one. God bless you Sir. Would you happen to live in NC. The surroundings in your mill video looks like the area. Good videos keep em coming.

I'd suggest a Tabletop or the working surface of a dresser/vanity. That Persimmon didn't grow quite long enough to become American-Ebony wood, but the white wood isn't exactly "Soft". The dulling noted in the video may not have entirely been the nail that was hit. Ebony wood is harder than soft steel. As far as the lack of coloration, stains can make up for a lot, but the grain of the wood isn't evident in the video, so I can't say what's best.

I plan on making a axe handle with persimmon that grows on my property.
