oh this is so much better than the shoddy cardboard and masking tape DIY cutting tables. I'd been trying for ages to figure out how to get a full size cutting table done with a real self-healing mat that would let me also install a magnetic backing for holding down patterns. if this works half as well as the video, this is going to be life changing.

This looks like a great material! but the question remains, why would I put that much effort and money making something like that if you have large cuttingmats with grids for a good price?
@jeremiahmeraz9298
4 жыл бұрын
Matthieu Libeert that is like $300 of urethane when you could spend $80 for a mat. What I want to see is how squishy the material is for making small parts. People never show how squishy or tough the material is.

Hello folks, I'm a professional Automotive & Aerospace Seat Cover Pattern Designer/Maker for many OEM automobile and aircraft manufacturers. I have been using urethane pattern/cutting mats for decades now, which is an industry-wide standard as well. Regrading the density (hardness) of the urethane material after casting, we have found that a Shore-A durometer of 90 (a.k.a. 90-A) at a thickness of 1/4" to be the best for our applications, as anything softer has a no-slip surface which does not allow us to slide our patterns around freely. Another benefit of this hardness is that the mats last for many years, despite high-effort cutting of other types of materials without cutting through it nor creating any type of surface deformities. With all this being said... I now ask you if your product name "Econ® 80" means that in the end, the durometer Shore A hardness of this would be 80-A ? Either way, I also ask if you sell this DIY material in 90-A. Lastly, does any of it come in any variety of colors... or perhaps the separate sale of color dyes we can add ourselves? Thanks folks, Ric Mc

Hello, Ric. Econ® 80 does cure to an 80A shore hardness and can be tinted using our SO-Strong® (Translucent), UVO® (Opaque) or Ignite® (Florescent) colorants. If you are seeking a 90 Shore A Hardness than you would want to look at our PMC®-790. That can be tinted using the same colorants.

Or could a thin layer of one of your products be used over top of a current cutting mat to revive the self-healing nature once it's faded?

That is awesome. A premade 4'x8' cutting mat would eaisly cost $280. This seems much more economical.

Hello, Thank you for watching. Since Econ™ 80 is a urethane rubber, it is recommended to use any urethane rubber with temps under 150°F.

Why don't you just work it out? It would take a few seconds. Does this stuff shrink as it dries or something? If it shrinks, it should say so in the description/instructions. Otherwise just convert your feet to millimetres and multiply. Lengths x width x hight = volume. To be honest, if you can't work out hiw much you need, you probably shouldn't be doing it. Why don't you look for a video on how to work out surface areas and volumes? I'm sure you'll realise that you already know it. You probably got excited about the stuff and, with a wandering mind, expect it to be complicated.
