I made these as regular shorts from some old sheet sets I bought at Good Will for super cheap. I have 5 pairs and counting now. I'll never run out of shorts in the summer again.

I am a qualified overlock and flat stitch machinist, this is the best I have seen as yet And if you are looking for a online tutorial I would suggest you use this one .But I would recommend, the raw edge of the waistband, side seams and crotch should be over locked surged to prevent fraying and would give a nicer finish, and also perhaps the hem on the leg, although that is folded inside so not 100% needed .Now Alternatively you can add a extra 1 inch to fold over the waistband a extra one time ,so the raw edge is enclosed within the fabric, but do consider this first depending on thickness of fabric as the extra fold could be too bulky, especially for sleeping in. I view this as the Best tutorial .Have fun sewing

Perfect instructions. I made a pair of these for my Wife. She's had a couple strokes and rough for her to sew. I'm retired and took over the job. I followed some online instructions with pictures at a blog site and really hosed up the first pair by sewing the crotch together like legs... hahahaha. I found your video and it is perfect. Pair #2 and Wife says she loves them. I used some material with big blue flowers on it. They look like surfer shorts, but she says they are just baggy enough for bed. Thanks for the tutorial! Oh forgot to mention. Getting the elastic through the hole was not an easy task, so I went out into my shop and got a 7" nylon tie. Dug out a needle and 32" of thread. Sewed thread to one end of the elastic, then tied the other end to the box end of the tie. Nylon glides right through there and then just pulled the elastic through... then promptly didn't see the elastic was twisted and sewed it that way. HAHAHA. Cut off what I sewed, un-twisted and sewed it up. Wife says it's just tight enough.

Zensky, I am not able to respond to your question directly due to the new youtube inbox with google plus. I always buy 1 yard of fabric so that I can adjust if there is a print on the fabric so I can get the prints to match up at the seams. So its always safe to go with 1 yard. Thanks for watching. Part 2: and most of us have round back sides, so it doesn't work to think the front panel should be the same as the back. I hope that makes sense. As long as you trace the front and then also trace the back (like I did in the video) you should be fine. Let me know if this makes sense. Thanks for watching. Take care and I hope you're having a GREAT day! HUGS :)

Such a lovely tutorial for beginners! I made a pair of sleek shorts with a satin material so it's cool for the summer.. I can't tell you how often I've tried to find satin sleeping shorts in the mall but fail to. This project took me an hour and 40 minutes to complete, I really learned a lot. Thank you!

I buy the cheap fabric scissors from Joanne Fabrics....The ones with the pink and white handle. I think they are made by Fiscars, but not sure. I buy what is on sale and they pretty much all work the same. I did buy a $50 pair from Joanne's that are a gold metal material and they hurt my hands after a while since they are more difficult to open and shut. Just make sure if you buy fabric scissors that you only use them on fabric!!! Thanks for watching and have a GREAT weekend! HUGS:)

If you own a sewing machine, I think you should give it a try. Sewing is frustrating at first, but really fun when you get the hang of it. Its worth taking a class from your local fabric store (I know Joanne Fabrics does pretty cheap lessons and they teach the basics). I actually taught myself to sew just by trial and error and watching youtube too :) Thanks for watching and I hope you have a GREAT weekend ! HUGS :)

I've never commented on a KZitem video before - you're my first! I hair wanted to say thank you for such a great tutorial. Following your guide, I just made a pair of shorts from the fabric of a pair of long pyjama pants which were too small (not enough space for my butt!) It worked brilliantly and they're so comfy. I added a little pocket on the back of mine so it's easy to tell which way round they go. Wish I could show you a picture, I'm very proud of myself right now. Thank you! :)

Hi there, thanks for the great tutorial. While I was able to follow your directions well and ended up with a decent looking pair of shorts, they didn’t fit. I made these for my daughter based on some knit shorts she has. I allowed for 1/2 inch seam allowance and everything, but she couldn’t get them over her hips. What did I do wrong???? Thanks, I’m anxious to try again.

The reason I fold my shorts with front crotch out and trace...and then fold my shorts with the back crotch out and trace is because the distance from your waist band to the crotch is longer in the back then in the front. You trace front and back separately is because if you didn't you could end up showing what I call "the plumber butt" because our butts are not flat like our front so we need that extra materials. Some people trace just the front and copy that same template to do the back

Sedipjoydale Macas Fronts and backs are slightly different in the crotch (inseam) since most people's butts are bigger than their fronts the back pattern gives a little extra material for that. When it comes to children, you can usually get away with just tracing the front of shorts for both front and back (they haven't usually filled out enough for it to make a difference). Thanks for watching and I hope you and your family are having a BEAUTIFUL day! HUGS :)
