This project is to make a simple AC Energy Meter using Arduino, its shields and hall effect current transformer. It is made simple and designed for user that just need to estimate the total or particular loads without the need of direct wiring connection. In order to measure voltage, you actually need to do a physical direct connection between the meter wires and the power measurement lines which are very dangerous as you are dealing with high voltage power source. This project assuming the voltage value and no direct connection of hard wires required and it is safer. However, it has lower accuracy as it can only measure apparent but not the active power or energy.
It able to measure the 4 important AC parameters : RMS Current, Apparent Power, daily accumulated Apparent Energy and total Apparent Energy. The values are displayed on LCD Display shield and also can be saved in SD Card using Datalogger Shield for further processing. Energy Monitoring often involved in solar photo-voltaic application. The measuring data can be saved and use in relation with other electrical parameters such as temperature, and DC power monitor.
