Curious if you got your jointer yet? I have a benchtop-sized one, and it is way too small to be effective. My planer sled works far better. Even if my jointer was bigger, a sled still works better. Imagine a board with a twist: If I'm stationary and the board is moving, I touch down on different locations of the board, effectively turning it as it moves

I started my hobby 32 years ago. Lost my shop in a move after 3 years and didn't get it back until we built our retirement home 22 years later. Be patient you'll get there.

Good ideas! I will need to build one of these. The one thing I am wondering though is wouldn't it be prudent to have either an outfeed table or supports? Like rollers? Especially when you are running long boards as such. Thx for the good idea, never thought about this kind of sled.

Thank you, yes I used rollers for the out feed.

I need to make components for a wooden sash window eg 50mm x 500mm to exact thickness. Do you know of a hand held thickness planar jig design, so I can run a jointer no7 hand held plane over wood surface guided by side rails to limit plane and ensure wood is flat ?

@@epeiusgarageor use hand tools if you want to remove highlights but for long boards and production I have a 7’ planer sled that while heavy is profoundly fast and efficient

all my lumber is wavy because I milled it. I need to bootstrap myself a flat sled surface somehow

If you mill it correctly you should end up with a square board.

@@epeiusgarage easier said than done. milling logs into lumber is hard. I barely managed to get what I have. Besides, roughcut is always wavy. Even if it isn't, it will warp once it dries

@@epeiusgarage I do have a lengthy track saw that makes excellent straight cuts. I could use that as a flat face: Make a bunch of them, and glue them together with the flat side facing up
