I made one of these, too. Used an oilite bushing in the bore... other than that, same. Handy thing, this tool you made. It's a better connection than almost any other method, where it is viable.

Yeah, that's what I like to see - work slipping in the vise with a dangerous power tool. No thanks. On the plus side, I like the way you pre-bend the cut wire ends before bending down to the surface - no sharp ends to cut the next guy who comes along . . . Stay safe my friends !!

Nice quick tool.. I like it... I'm sure your dad appreciates your starter burns on his vice. Must be the 1st time you used it to hold a wielding project .. ..There is only one set of rod starter burns on it...At least grind them off for him... There's got to be a better way to strike an arch...🤔

Harbor freight can get you Mig flux core for $99, Easily enough power for this job. A lot of good stick machines start at $180. If your really going to get into it however you really want a 240v power with 6 gauge wire 50amp plug 6-50r outlet installed by a electrician. That’s about $300-450. The basic house 15amp 110v won’t get you very far, probably enough to do this job but I wouldn’t feel safe.
