My husband and I made one of these screens this summer to remove rocks from areas where we were putting in new flower beds. We used old chicken wire. Never thought of using it to remove roots. Good idea!

Yes it works well. We often use a screen product called 'hardware cloth'. Its available in many different sizes from 1/8th inch to 3/4 inch and many sizes between. Just ask your local hardware store. Now we are using recycled potting soil more often it makes sense to have divices like this👍

@@growercoach Is there a downside to adding old potting soil to garden beds? I grew potatoes, onions, and zinnias/marigolds in grow bags this year, but want to try a different soil mix next year. Can I just dump the soil in the bags into the vegetable bed and mix it in?

@@wyominghome4857 The potting soil we use is an inett material that doesnt add much of anything to garden soil. It adds some moisture holding ability but I think you would get better results by keeping your in ground plantings based on the main ingedients of earh; sand silt and clay plus compost. I have used recycled potting soil to cover new seeding in my veg garden. But I wasnt too happy with the results. Much petter to use a well composted product. I reuse potting soil in the bottoms of large pots that I plant in May.
