I'd move the sled closer to the unit so it would be easier to steer (shorter steering radius) and put a large mud flap behind the track to keep from eating snow from flying up from the track. Great build! Gives me some ideas!!

Good job same concept as a 2 wheel tractor but with a single track and fun for the winter and smaller than hauling a skidoo to the lake or bush.

Good job! I built one of these about four years ago after seeing a guy make a electric one. I used a Harbor freight 6.5hp motor, I CNC plasma cut a large sprocket to get the gearing lowered to full speed at about a jogging speed, mine was more intended for a walk behind for hauling fire wood and stuff like that. I only got to use it for a short time because the large original drive chain in the chain box ended up breaking, after that I pulled the motor and used it on a homemade log splitter. Good work and take care!

I'm inspired now and even have two junk tractors with running electric start motors in the 21hp range. Subscribed.

Anything you would have done differently? Can you elaborate a bit on how you shortend the rubber the track and respliced it? Why did you mount motor in rear to keep the front end up?
@Smalls4068
5 жыл бұрын
I cut the track in half and feathered the 2 ends with a right angle grinder then used a very strong rubber cement and a few pan head bolts to secure the 2 half’s. The motor was mounted in the front because that’s were it fit best but I ended up scraping the snowmobile tunnel for a home built frame. Search snow mutt on KZitem to see it

Cut the front half of an old wheelbarrow and put it on the front for deep snow or high stumps. (OUCH) Or at least a handlebar pad for your face should you hook up with something solid, Works pretty good though.

nice sled. What sprocket tooth counts did you use for the chain drive. Trying to figure out the ratio. I have similar thing built. teeth on drive and teeth on driven?Thanks
@nicholashollow9410

There is also the gear reduction in the clutches, the chain from the clutches to the original snowmobile chain case and the reduction in the chain case. Then all that powers a 10in wheel that turns the track.

Whats your gear ratio? Number of teeth on sprokets? What/where did you get a sprocket for the jack shaft? Is it just an arctic cat drive chain sprocket slid down and held by races and a keyway? Just started stripping one last night.
@Smalls4068
5 жыл бұрын
13 tooth. To drive the gear box already on the snowmobile. I get my sprockets at tractor supply. Yes it’s just the shaft from the snowmobile with a keyway milled in it to accommodate the sprocket. The sprockets sell separately and you buy a sleeve that is the same size as your shaft. That is the part that gets the keyway and you weld the sprocket to the sleeve. Hope that helps. Good luck with your build and ask any more questions
@Smalls4068

kevin bentley I had a 28 tooth on this one but I just did another one that goes 21 mph and that one has a 13 tooth driver and a 48 tooth driven sprocket. I have a fishing video with that buggy in it that just got uploaded a few weeks ago. You might want to watch that one before you build yours. Still plenty of torque but more speed in the one in this video

great creative build ..I've been pondering using 2 side by side driving down to a differential to power to both units using the brakes for steering, but I want to float the pair separately, that where the build gets tough...the drive need to be the pivot. just not wanting to make them rigid... since I picked up 4 INDY 500 POLARIS......mine are long tracks and like 20 inch wide tracks.... but the snowmobiles do have a suspension, but the bigger question is in in HOUSTON, TEXAS what are they doing down here.. I love watching the ideas of OTHER folks ..some cool uses...of pourposed things turning into something useful.....BUILD ON!
