So I was wondering. If the problem was precision, why don’t you try again using a pipette? You would need to figure out how many drops of each product to use. You might need an incredibly precise scales (I’m talking 0.01 level of precision here) and it’s not particularly easy because you’ll need to be very meticulous at first. Here’s how you could do it: take a few small glasses (they need to all be the exact same). In one of them, try to measure out the smallest amount of water you can and use that as a guide (you need to have as much as or less water than this. Take a pipette and measure out roughly half the amount of what’s in glass 1, talking care to count how many drops you’ve used. Weigh this. Note whether this is below (e.g.: 0.76) or above (e.g.: 1.45) the 1g you need for this recipe. Next, measure out half (if glass 2 was below 1g) or once and a half (it glass 2 was above 1g) as many drops than glass 2. Once again, weigh it and compare to 1g. Repeat until you get exactly at 1.00g. The reason why you can’t just use drops while on the scales is that a lot of them don’t register that small a weight incrementally and so they won’t tally up the count. It’s like if you sit in a bath that’s progressively cooler. You wt notice the difference until you suddenly realise it’s much colder. Once you have the right number of drops, just measure out that in both parts of the gel. You can way each to check that it’s correct. You can add colour but that might change the reaction so you might have to fine tune it. If you leave it transparent, though, it should be perfect. I realise this is a bit long but I really got into the science method (I haven’t done any in a while so I miss it) and I kind of went overboard. I do feel that if you just have to count drops with a pipette, you could actually make squishies and sell them. You’d have to wait for it to set, of course, but that’s not very long. Anyways I hope you or someone does read this and tried it!

Came here to say this! I definitely suggest the pipettes, many in the prop community use them for measuring exact amounts for resins and such. And they're cheap!

This is cute but there’s no fucking way that my parents are going to let me buy a $60 squishie maker when I can buy one for like a dollar or two. Even if I gave them to money to order it they would think that I’m insane. Edit: sorry if I sound “salty” and I love Joanna and am in no way writing this as a hate comment because she’s not the one who priced the product I’m just saying something that was on my mind

Hey there! So a little tip, when measuring liquids it’s best to us a tablespoon or teaspoon. Liquids don’t weigh the same so even measure out 2 grams it’s not accurate because the base liquid will be lighter than the hardener. I bet if you tried it again and did 1 teaspoon base to 1 teaspoon hardener they would turn out perfectly! 😁

weight doesn’t equal volume, so that can explain some of the issues. Also, you could try pipettes to get smaller measurements of the resin. :) they’re super cheap on amazon.

The trick for resins that you need to measure exactly is to make larger batches. When you make such tiny batches the slightest measuring error is increased geometrically. My kitchen scales only measure in increments of .5 grams which means the actual measurements are up to .25 grams off...assuming an accurate scale in the first place. When making 1 gram batches of this resin you need a scale accurate to the milligram and even then you'll run into problems of the hardener leaving enough residue in its measuring vessel to throw off the proportions. You need to prep a lot more molds at once for pouring in order to make a large enough batch to set reliably. One way to help differentiate squishes from candies is to add shimmer powders or glitter

In the future, I'd spray your molds with a mold release agent if you haven't tried that. I make molds and casts for doll parts, and mold release is a godsend. I also keep around the cups from medicine that we've used up, because I prefer to measure my casting material by volume if I can help it. Best of luck! Thank you so much for all the lovely crafts

So I would think that one way to do this would be to measure how many grams of Hitohada gel you have, then make a whole lot of squishy molds and mix all of it together at once. You get the perfect ratio of gel to hardener, and you get a bunch of squishies in 24 hours. If that works perfectly, you could maybe even turn a profit selling them.
