Great tips. I used the overlap on a clients footer recently to highlight their logo. The first example site you showed has lovely soft colours but I recently learned that using a contrast checker is important as people with vision problems will have a hard time making out the text without sufficient contrast. I use an app called sip on my Mac and it has a contrast checker as one of its many cool tricks.

Thanks; glad ya enjoyed it. 😁 --Yes! website accessibility compliance is such a hot topic these days. Squarespace luckily is very compliant right out of the box, so we have to make sure our customizations don't change that. Color contrast checkers like this one abc.useallfive.com/ are really useful for seeing which of the brand colors pass or fail and which ones to tweak. To go a step further, UserWay and AudioEye are both great tools you can install on your website that can help as well. UserWay has a free plan and their paid plans cover 10x more page views per month than AudioEye's cheapest paid plan; but to my knowledge, AudioEye doesn't offer a free widget or a free plan, however, it supposedly goes further toward compliance services and as such, is quite a bit more expensive with each plan covering much fewer page views than UserWay. Lots of new things to learn in this area, for sure! 🙃

Yes userway is installed on all my clients sites but I feel the contrast issue should be tackled in the design so we don’t have to make people do extra work if they don’t have to. But that’s me.

@@JaiSequoia I agree. If we can get our clients on board with that knowing why we make these suggestions, it's always better to make those adjustments in the development phase and not rely on third-party overlay software to solve those problems wherever possible. 😊

Oh and I didn’t know we can copy and paste things into other sections now! Excellent! Now we just need to be able to group items together to resize them all together.

Yes! You can actually copy blocks or groups of blocks between pages if they're both in Fluid Engine too; can be a little quirky, but it definitely works! --And I totally agree; that was part of my feedback for them last year during the Beta FE testing rounds. Hopefully, they'll introduce group resizing soon too! 🤞🏻

Very fun. I'll be trying these hacks out. Thank you. I'm newish to SQSP design. I've completed Paige B's 2 courses on design and business and view you both when she does her live segments. Really enjoyable. I also made it into the Circle membership too! Additionally, I am learning Elementor to have add'l tools as a creator at my disposal and I do enjoy a lot of what is does. (not a fan of Wordpress tho 😝lol) But, I would like to see some creative ways (hacks) to create dividers between sections. Elementor has some really great options and the sites can look awesome when used well. Ideally I would love for SQSP to offer those design elements built in...but, until then, maybe you could do a YT vid on how to create some really cool divider effects. I've been toying around with the shape block to get some dividers into my builds, but I'm guessing that there may be some add'l ways as well. Thanks for your YT guidance. 😃

Thank you, Shawn! I'm so glad you enjoyed these tips -and Congrats! Welcome to Circle! 😃👏🏻 If you like Elementor but don't like Wordpress, you could check out something like Showit, Webflow or Wix instead, if you're looking to expand your toolbox a bit outside of Squarespace. Those are the places I'd hit first before diving into plugin-worlds. 😂 As far as section dividers go, SquareKicker can add those in fun ways which is super quick/easy; there are also ways to hardcode them into section borders as shape masks with Custom CSS but that takes more time/attention/effort to get into place AND be responsive. I can't really share the Custom CSS solution for a few reasons, but I can definitely show how to use SquareKicker to add dividers & as that's the easier of the two anyway, I should add that to my list. Thanks for the suggestion!
