Really nice work. I think I used the same power button on mine. What I did with my wood case is that I made the fan holes square. That allowed me to put the fans inside the wood frame. The fans are 25mm, the wood is 18mm. I also went all wood, no ply wood. Nice idea regarding the attaching of the glass, what I did for mine is that I slide it in in some groves made in the wood. My case definetly looks worse :) but it is mine.

Tip: some great dust filtration screens that is easy and cheap... are easily found at home box store or online, like a Lowes or Home Depot ... is shop vac bags and filters. Do not get tight hepa filters, but shallower micron screen or bags that you then cut with scissors and use either paste glue or double sided tape or even set up a velcro mesh holder. Or like I do, take the fans off and put the screen in between the fans and case. Check air flows after, to make sure you have enough air pressure. Some fans are highflow, some high pressure and some materials are just too dense to blow enough air through. You can buy really cheap screens online as well, but these are so much more customizable.

Just a pointer for anyone interested in doing this themselves. Make sure you use a high quality plywood for the motherboard tray and seal it well. Normal wood, especially when left untreated, will expand and contract significantly with room humidity levels. Up to 10mm over the length of a motherboard. That repetitive stress is likely to break the board over time. Plywood has significantly less moisture shrinkage, so it's less of an issue for it. And you can further reduce it by sealing the plywood with a lacquer (on all sides/edges). Feel free to use any kind of wood for the rest of the case. Unless you're doing a hard line custom loop. If you do a custom loop the shrinkage/expansion could make fittings become loose.
@mxcbuilds6633
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your detailed insight! I was worried about my mounting method for the side glass panels. Do you think the expansion along the grain of wood would be significant? I've read that it's the expansion across the grain that's the real issue.
@Erowens98
2 жыл бұрын
@@mxcbuilds6633 Yeah, expansion is negligible radially (along the grain), Unless you live in a tropical climate, generally less than 1% from season to season. So I wouldn't worry about it. At worst, you might have to expand the holes a little bit to allow a little slack when the slight expansion/contraction has occurred. As you said, it's the tangential (across the grain) expansion you have to worry about when it comes to wood.
