The story behind candle chant is really sad
@dancreb5
8 жыл бұрын
Interview with DJ Krush What’s the story behind the lyrics of Candle Chant (A Tribute)? There was a 24-year-old kid that was a big fan. He was a half-Japanese and half-black kid that rapped and was dying of cancer. His mother called me up directly and said my son is sick and he respects you so much and asked if I would mind visiting him at the hospital because it would give him the courage to fight. So I went to the hospital with Boss the MC to visit him. Since he was a rapper, I wanted to do a song with him but he couldn’t move enough to make it to the recording studio so we talked to the hospital and was going to bring the equipment there so we could record at the hospital. So we were planning it out but two weeks later he passed away. So the song is about him and about the pure connection of a very limited time together and how certain circumstances brought us together. The last lyric in Japanese on that song says you will always be in our soul so it’s about connecting with somebody and no matter where they go, we are always together and he will always be here. He was a very powerful young man. He was half- black and half Japanese so he was probably discriminated against and kind of picked on in school. He always said that he’s not mixed blood but has the power of two bloods and that’s why he felt he had the power to beat the cancer so it made a very powerful impact on both Boss and myself.

I credit Dj Krush, Flying lotus , Dj Shadow and Nujabes for helping me discover the genre trip hop and break beats. That lead me on to discovering also another genre called "Drum N bass/ Jungle" that is foreign here in the United states.
@benjatheninja3113
4 жыл бұрын
midnight marauder it’s not foreign dubstep just got in the way for the most part. We have a drum and bass monthly that’s been going on for many years. Other big cities still have small drum and bass scenes. It’s just not as big as it was in the late 90s early 2000s
@tom-ot8kg
4 жыл бұрын
@@benjatheninja3113 actual drum n bass/jungle originated in the U.K. like metalheadz records and for the most part it's still underground. I get what you're saying though you might hear DnB in some raves here in the U.S. but it sounds similar to marshmallow's music 😂
@benjatheninja3113

midnight marauder I’m fully aware of the origin of dnb. It is my favorite genre and I’ve been listening to it since 1998. Actually there isn’t many raves this day in age. There is music festivals and that’s where you here bs pop music like marshmallow. There is still underground scenes in the USA that have dnb scenes. Like I said I live in Houston and we have a drum and bass monthly called Frenzi that plays nothing but drum and bass. They always have a good headliner from hospital records, metalheadz, ram records and etc. Austin and Dallas also have a small but decent drum and bass scene as well and they are just a few hours away from me. You just gotta know where to look🙄
