Thanks for sharing this interview. I didn't watch Tavis too much back then, but glad I get to play catch up now! It is really educational to hear both of them talking like this. Doesn't hurt to learn something about these artist beyond the lyrics they rapping about! Love it!

This was when hip hop was speaking the truth on wtf was going on in the world at that time with drugs, gangs ,police brutality and so forth . Nowadays it's all about bling ,Bitches and hangin' in the club and not speaking on the issues that need to be addressed .This was when rap was dope and speaking the truth . Wish more rappers these days would that .

Even though I didn't listen to a lot MC Eiht music but him and DJ Quik are legends in hip hop and they both deserve more credit as artist and producer in the music business. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.

Rappers MC Eiht and DJ Quik are squashing whatever beef they had with each other for 29 years in an interview with Tavis Smiley on BET Tonight (parts 1 and 2) that was previously aired on July 21, 1999 courtesy of Black Entertainment Television

Most rappers these days cannot speak this well. The funny thing is 90s rappers had a stigma of not being articulate but clearly that wasn't true.

Mc Eihy and Dj Quik are one of the smartest rappers, they didn't do the suicidal emotional rout that killed all those rappers we know.
