Finally, an honest review for this drone.! So far, only FPV stunt pilots where reviewing this, and were really negative about the unit, because it wasn't like their custom rigs. I think DJI made this, for exactly what you're using it for, and for that, it really looks awesome! If someone wants to delve deeper into sport FPV flying, they can jump into the more custom rigs out there. But if you just want to fly a drone, and have the FPV experience, I can see were this would be an awesome addition to someone's kit.

Yes, DJI made this drone for the sheeple who don't have the skill or time to master a TRUE Race Drone. Plus as it has the letters "DJI" on it, they double the mark-up price - $$$$. There's very good reason those who fly true Race Drones (the enthusiasts) slate this. Plus 99% of those who fly DJI drones, would crash a race drone (flown in Manual or Acro mode) within a couple of seconds, given a try. This is just another mass produced DJI Drone made for the masses.

If you used this quadcopter and became good enough to actually fly it in acro mode you would become so bored in minutes. It’s slow, it doesn’t have good range and you can’t fix it. You could also have 3 fpv HD quads with GPS for the cost of this one that would literally fly circles around this brick and give you 8 miles of range

then they should not call it fpv. you cant jass up a fiesta and enter it in f1. iflight is better value better quality flies 10 times better and if you have a bump does not fall apart. in the rare case it does need a repair it's easy cheap and does not require dji to charge you 250 quid on top of the 300 you already paid for dji care just to swap out a 10 quid sensor

Thanks for your opinions. Can you share some thoughts about “laws”? It’s the thing that most concern me. It seems that pretty much every thing you’d like to do with a drone it’s illegal unless your a kind of certified pilot…I’d like to fly it for fun as you…but illegal close to people, illegal in resident areas, illegal fpv in first place because you literally interior eyes contact with the drone…and so on. Any recommendations? What do you think about it? Have you had any problem?

No my updates always seem to go through fairly seamlessly. If you’re having problems you can try updating firmware by plugging it into your computer and downloading the DJI assistant app for the FPV series. You can download it from the DJI website and can manually update your firmware that way

Besides the digital goggles and hover lock feature these are not good FPV. It’s the worst of FPV and worst of stability from the larger true Cinematic quads. Like he mentioned these are aimed at new or inexperienced FPV flyers who don’t know better or don’t want to invest the time for the advantages of true FPV race quads.

I bought a Mavic Air 2 (fly more combo) early this year, it reminded me why I got bored with "camera drones". I returned it for the FPV, which came with just the one battery. First impression, was this thing is awesome! That made me want to get into freestyle / race quads even more! I picked up a Radiomaster TX16S, mainly to play sims, but also as a future radio. After many hours crashing in sims, and nearly giving up several times, I started to get it. I then ordered the analog adaptor for the DJI goggles, and a iFlight Nazgul 5 (analog) along with 3 batteries. I've flown it a bunch, and crashed it quite often. It's a tank, I can't believe it hasn't broke yet! This hobby is more about passion, and I still have a lot to learn. Installing receivers, programing the radio, setting up Express LRS, BetaFlight, and more, is intimidating to say the least. There's a lot of people who talk down about the DJI FPV, because it's not a "freestyle" or "race" drone, but it was never meant to be. It's a DJI FPV drone, just like the name says.

what you really want out of a drone is a good question for beginners to ask themselves. I spent 8 straight hours last night doing my research and weighing pros and cons and then I finally asked myself what I really want to use it for, the answer was I really want a tool to help my hobbies, not to start a new hobby. so, I went to Best Buy and picked up a Mini 2 and it's more than perfect for my needs. I think FPVs are really cool and I'd love to fly one some day but it's important not to get caught up in what you may find neat and what you really want to spend your money on, for you camera drones just aren't what you're in it for, and that's why there's FPVs. I'm excited to see what other kinds of drones people develop in the next decade or two.

@@dordly I couldn't agree more! There's definitely (at least) 2 sides to our drone hobby. Those that want the FPV experience, and those that want a cinematic experience. Great review, I have it from launch after only ever flying Mavics and really struggled with manual in the sim, three sims actually, i clocked up well over 30 hour's between Lift off, DJI sim and my favourite Free Rider, but tbh i wasn't great in either and thought I'd never be able to fly manual then i just bit the bullet and sent it, now every flight is in manual i love the freedom of movement and speed and the safety of the panic button and the ability to land and take off like a Mavic and not have to think about all the other stuff that goes with regular fpv, all in all I'm delighted with mine and be absolutely buzzing after every flight.

On top of everything that has been said about traditional FPV drones I'd like to add that maintaining these also takes a lot of time. I broke a lot of stuff on those just when landing (which is a breeze with the DJI). Broken cables, antennas, LiPos, flight controllers, propellers, cameras... at some point you realize that you're spending more time on fixing your drones than flying them plus you have to get all the soldering gear, multi meter and so on. I feel the DJI is not as easy to crash bcs of all the supported modes - if you do crash it though there's rarely a way to fix it yourself.

The video started degrading in the goggles, the FPV braked to a stop on its own, and would hardly respond to the motion controller inputs. MOST people who pick it up, aren't going to be naturals at it. I started on a sim and within a couple hours I was putting down top 200 lap times. Nothing "Amazing" but respectable. Even with that, It takes some practice to really learn how to do some tricks and such for sure I cant do half the crap you see youtubers doing, but I can fly a track pretty well after practicing it. Having an understanding of the physics behind what makes it work/fly also helps a ton.

The 5d control toggle wouldn't function to toggle up and down. The side to side worked, but I couldn't get into any other menu besides the status. Could not adjust volume on the home screen either due to this. Again, called DJI and their response was it had to go back to where I bought it. @@jayboddie8718 absolutely it can be used for cinema shots, I've seen some astoundingly good work done with these thus far. I personally build my own drones from parts so I'm comfortable with soldering on new arms wiring so I don't feel like repairing it will be that hard because I'm used to fixing my own drones. Almost every part in the DJI fpv drone can now be sourced on amazon so I don't see any drawback to owning one other than it's no fly zone an height limit but I've seen a few videos detailing a permanent bypass to those limitations by some companies that know what they're doing an it only cost roughly 40$ which is worth it to me to unlock the drone to it's full potential. I'm waiting for my raise at work to buy one but as soon as I'm able to afford one I'll be buying a DJI fpv drone, hopefully sometime next month. Doing cinema shots is all about the person behind the camera and drone, I've seen people do good cinema work with a 100$ cellphone camera and I've seen bad cinema work with a 50,000$ red camera. It's all about the content an knowing how to frame up the shot and get the best image out of the image sensor. While the DJI fpv drone might not be the most open of systems I feel like it's a good tool to put in the toolbox of any drone pilot as they all have their uses an best use case scenarios.

I agree with what you're saying. I feel the same way after watching people race and racing a few times myself I love FPV but I definitely like doing it my way and not racing. The biggest thrill I've gotten so far is chasing edf jets in manual mode.

Thank you and yes I think this is such an easy way to get into FPV with very little learning curve

Only complaint with the FPV throttle will not go to 100% zero so you can’t do a true dive

Great long term review of the FPV drone, You heard so much about this drone when it first came out, but not so much anymore. So it’s really good to know that it still works very well for your needs.I have the same concerns that you had about FPV, I don’t really want to mess around with LiPo batteries, and I don’t have a lot of time to learn traditional FPV flying. And this FPV would fit my needs also, except I find the price to much for amount o times I would use it. Excellent video., and thanks for sharing. I might consider getting a DJI FPV drone if they come out with a smaller and more affordable model.

There are still a ton, hundreds of videos of Chase, scenery, cinematic, and tutorials about this. And they seem to have tripled in number since it came out. You must not be looking too hard.

Coolness ! I bought a second set, and I set the second set of goggles I let my child use so they can be my “passengers” or anyone else that wanted to ride along. Yes, you can do that racing drones with things like fat sharks. , but it’s nice to know that this is easy to do. Just buy a second set of goggles and a battery. I tried to find any info on this and did. Not find anything. The only evidence that got me to spend the money to experiment was a setting in the goggles called “audience”. Choose Audience, in your passengers goggles when your drone is powered on and synced and the drone will show up as a choice right where you select “audience”. Enjoy

Took one of FPV’s with me to Dallas/Ft Worth for a month and flew in a couple of local fields and parks such as the AMA 114th Aero Squadron RC Field near Grapevine Lake (hi guys). I just want to mention that I crashed their four times. Once at about 85mph just over the manicured runway at the 114th. Hit a clump of grass that marks a taxiway and the battery and drone both cartwheeled down the hard runway for maybe 60ft. I was really surprised that nothing broke in any crash except props and they really didn’t break. They did receive more than enough damage to warrant replacing them. I didn’t smack concrete or asphalt in any of the crash but some were hard enough to knock the battery out. The arms that I thought would break, did not. (Though I have ordered spares in preparation). I’ve spent about 30 hours in the simulator and now I only use the sport or normal modes for landings or to scratch my nose. Which is handy to use.

Great review, i got a cheap china rtf fpv drone to start out with,, the drone burned up the second flight (in air) lol looked cool atleast. After that i got the Dji and a AccuRC sim! all worked out great and i feel the same about not really needing any other drone anymore. The learning curv was pretty fast/easy for me since i used to fly 3d rc helis back in the days, which helped a lot.

Have you since spent some time in simulators so you can fly it in manual? I enjoy flying my Mini 3 Pro with goggles in Sport mode but I'm having a lot of fun learning manual mode, in Simulators, to fly other FPV drones in manual although an Avata or FPV might be fun to have as a hybrid as I doubt they'll add Manual mode to my M3P.
@AirPhotography

Yeah, the mini three pro is a different type of drone. It really can’t be fully manual. But I do enjoy fly the Avata in manual. I I spend some time in the simulator brushing up on my skills.

New drone flier here, and I probably have awhile until I'm comfortable enough to buy the DJI FPV (just messing with the Mini right now). General question though; how do you handle the FDA guidelines on LOS & such? I heard that you always have to have two people to operate a FPV drone legally?

Thanks for a great review, as always. What is your view of the battery life? I’ve got a Mavic Mini-3 Pro and this FPV is quite interesting to me.
@AirPhotography
Жыл бұрын
You don’t get near the amount of flight time as the mini series. But compared to other FPV drones, it’s very good. And really after 14 to 15 minutes in the goggles you’re ready for a break anyways. I’ve been quite pleased with the battery performance.
