Hi..nice tests. You mentioned at 2.20 that the stock antennas on the goggles are linear antennas..as i know the stock antennas on the goggles and the air unit are LHCP circular polarized antennas..or did you change the stock antennas to linear ones or V2 goggles has linear stock antennas? I have v1 goggles.

Good question- it would be interesting to try. I went this way, as I could try a patch antenna. I do think switching out the antennas on the air unit ( linear/ better lhcp) could yield some interesting results. I’ll try to grab some next time I’m ordering bits for FPV.

Great video! Maybe you've come around my antennatests as well? A note to DJI FPV drone: the ce 2.4 ghz has 100mw not 25! You can upgrade the firmware of the DJI FPV now to also get srt files on the drone like on the air units. I've created a little script to convert DJI srt to either excel readable CSv (for charts) or shorter, more useable srt files with text bars and only volts or Bitrate. Happy to share if you ever need this again. Do you have an British accent? If so it's not the uk we see here,is it? Maybe Australia? Greets, Mario

thank you, yes - indeed, I love what the tests you do on your channel ... I watched your recent one on the new ORT DigiEyes v2 with real interest - I might buy a pair, and compare to these results. I think these are LHCP? so it'd be interesting to see how they fair on the DJI Drone. DJI FPV drone 2.4ghz, ah, I missed that... I guess this also helps the advantage 2.4ghz has yeah, the new firmware was released I think the one or two days after I did this - arghh, would have made things much simpler :) cool, I'll check out your SRT tool, that would be very useful. Yes, Im British... and, indeed it not the UK :) I've not lived there for many years... Due to the v2 layout , top or bottom should not make any difference ( since you’ll have one tx, one rx) - I put stubbiest on top, and patch on bottom. What would make a difference is using diagonals with the patch, as that would mean you’d be placing on just rx or tx - but I’d assume that would result in worst behavior

v2 googles send/receive are on diagonals.... so what I do is place patches on both of the bottom, and stubbies on top. so you have a mix of send/receive for both. this works well for me. (also worth experimenting yourself.... as in your environment, it could be better a different way... just test close range initially ;) ) note: since doing this video I also did some tests with new antennas on the (non dji) FPV quad, and this made a huge difference with the air unit. in particular, the ORT DJI Air Unit antennas, Id recommend this if you are still using stock air unit antennas. (Ive also moved over to using the Ort Digieyes patch, but thats because they are dual band, so slightly better with the DJI FPV drone)

@@chronowarp123 literally just bought the v2's after numerous analogue vtxs and expensive losses (due to not waiting for GPS lock). The last set up was a rush tank solo @1.6W with Vas ion pro antenna. On Skyzone 03o goggle I had Vas ion pro & Vas Crosshair extreme. Leaning out the top window of a 3 story block of flats and flying first behind a large row of mature trees, I was getting to about 2.5km ,urban settings, 100m up before it got super grainy where I thought I better turn back. If I were out in the countryside or around less interference, with LOS , a greater distance could be achieved I'm sure.
@kudzy11

I'm waiting for mine to arrive, but I've tried a mates and it's amazing. The clarity in the image and no Intermittent break ups , and static fuzz was grades above my analogue set up. As for penetration, where is it that you want to be flying? My mate assured me that the dji's do have good penetration, but like analogue, the antenna choice matters. He does free style and flies bandos. You can get good penetration on analogue if you're flying local. I was using rush tank solo 1.6W and getting 2.5km in urban settings about 100m up. I could swoop down n buzz a mates roof at near enough this distance but because of the geography, and distance I'd lose video signal briefly at the bottom of the dive( about 3 story block) I'd just punch out a lil bit and all was good. Not flown bandos myself with analogue but there must be some reviews on ere somewhere 🤔 I did promise myself I wouldn't be like my mate who's spent ££££ on numerous parts and has loads of drones hung up on his workroom wall, but I'm slowly realising how it happens... If you can afford it, (I'm still unsure if I did the right thing,its a lotta money i coulda spent on something else) , and you fly often (these AND the needed air unit/caddx vista are too expensive just for a novelty, once every 2 month flight i fell) then go for it. Other than that, upgrading your analogue vtx is a much cheaper option, if you need more power , there's the AKK Ultra 3W!! Surely that'll penetrate!

they will work if you force the DJI FPV to use 5.8ghz... however, I found in my environment 2.4ghz (with stock antennas) works better than anything with 5.8ghz. so it comes down to, where you fly , does 2.4 or 5.8ghz generally work better? usually 2.4ghz is better in non built up areas, 5.8 ghz in built up areas with more rf interference.... but its worth flying both and seeing what works for you.

Thanks for the greate video👌 i tried the last couple days the manual mode to train it. Im from germany so i also use the CE mode. I have connection errors in a distance 150 meters in front of me three times the last flight. No trees, nothing. Maybe i should switch to 2.4 Ghz manually. Do you have also select a channel manual if you change the bandwith?
@TheTechnobear
3 жыл бұрын
150m is not normal, even in CE, with stock antennas for either the air unit or dji fpv drone - in CE with clear line of sight ALL will do 1km. Im assuming you are using the dji fpv drone (since you mentioned manual mode), as you can see in above video both 5.8 and 2.4 will get you to 1km on the dji fpv. for sure, the DJI FPV tends to default to 5.8ghz in auto mode, but as you can see at 10:24, this still goes out to 1km. but yeah, this assumes clear line of sight, trees/hillsides will drop the signal as this video shows. if you have clear line of sight, I'd suggest : a) check antennas on goggles are screwed in firmly b) are you flying somewhere that possibly has alot of wifi activity? or other radio interference? if (b) you could try 2.4ghz to just see if there is less interference. basically 5.8 is **usually** preferred in cities to cope with interference , 2.4 where less wifi interference- but always worth trying both. changing channel will not get you any more bandwidth, it just moves where in the frequency spectrum it uses. again, you can try different channels to see if some are better than others. btw: also try turning your mobile phone off (well put in airplane mode) see if that helps

@@TheTechnobear Thanks for the hints. The signal breaks on two different places. Outside of towns or any buildings. It breaks allways if drone is in front of me. Its strange because the connection quality bars in goggles show always "full connection" then the signal breaks down immediately and the save mode turned on. The next time i will choose a different spot and if that happend again turn it to 2.4 ghz.
@TheTechnobear

@@TheJunkernut i assume you mean video (and we are talking dji fpv drone?), not controller connection. when you say its breaks down... do you mean it goes fully black, or you just start getting pixelation? Id not expect even pixelation at 150m, on 2.4 or 5.8 - unless something was interfering with the signal. given its so close, perhaps you should try a ground test...to rule out a technical fault with the drone/goggles. so put the drone on the ground, and then walk away from it (goggles off) and see when it breaks up. also try circling the drone at distance, and see if a particular angle is worst... of course, you can try 2.4 and also try the b3yond hack, but whilst they may help, perhaps they'll be masking an issue with your drone. sorry, can't sound more positive but really if your in an open area without interference, you should be fine to a reasonable distance... I think usually people that have issues are because they are not taking into account interference or obstructions which can deteriorate the signal alot ... but sounds like thats not the case in your situation :(

In EU power has EIRP Limit meaning. 5.8GHz you can only send max 25mv. So if transmit power is 25mv with dji own antennas aka something dBm+dBi. You can't change focusing antenna because dBi raises so that means your EIRP limit goes over. 5.5GHz you can transmit 1w EIRP, but you need to deal with weather radars. 2.4 100mv EIRP i think is allowed indoors only. But at least Wifis trans mission powers start from -30dBM aka about 0.001mv.

You can see from the video signal strengths with and without … so can judge yourself. Generally with air unit I’d say it’s worth it, not so much with DJI FPV drone which is better with dual band antennas. But all depends a bit on your environment and usage ( eg city or open spaces)

Last flight in video is 2.4 ghz using stock antennas - you can’t use these patch as they are tuned for 5.8 ghz so perform badly at 2.4 ghz.
