Another cause for stutters and freezes is unknowingly using a counterfeit micro SD card (super prevalent on the market especially from Amazon). Both that and/or not formatting the card through the goggles themselves have both had me scratching my head troubleshooting the DJI system in the past.

Caps are like guns, its better to have one and not need it, than need one and not have it. I always go a little bigger and fly with confidence. Panasonic 50V low esr are my favs, 35V ones work too, but I've never had a single problem using the big boy 50V. If you got the room it's worth the couple grams difference. Thanks for sharing the knowledge. Love the videos!

The only freezing I get is when I fly behind the big forest at the end of our field, about half a km away and about 400m deep of thick ferns, oh and using the analogue input recording from a PAL camera always fails if the video gets snowy, my solution is don't fly behind the forest, and only use NTSC analogue cameras LOL I've been fiddling with electronics and RC Cars and planes since the 80's, I never build anything without caps nowdays.

Same here old school way is the way I roll. i'vee built 9 5 inch quads 3 of which were the 4 in 1 escs with 35v 1000uf low esr cap had issues with those three including digital fpv the rest all individual escs with 35v 330 or 470 uf low esr cpas in each esc no issues built a second digital fpv using my old method. I should see much better results. Plus its much cheaper to replace one esc. 👍

You seem like someone that knows what he is talking about, thanks for taking the time explaining your experience. I'm being plagued by Caddx Vista video freezes and kind of lost my confidence, and am afraid I did something horable in my build. After your video I checked my cap on my 5" and discovered it was only 330 uF (i dont even know if it was low ESR), also it was mounted with very thin wires to the pads. I guess adding a 1000 uf Cap will bring me a long way. Combined with the information that the video especially froze while using old batteries and/or 6S batteries (on my 2400 KV motors) it makes perfect sense that this is the culprit.

@@FuradiBeen scratching my head for days. Tore apart my 5", gonna rebuild it right now with the fresh CAP. What is your opinion about mounting the Vista. Is it ok to mount it directly with metal bolts to the frame (so I basically ground the Vista case with the frame) ? I see in your builds you use plastic fasteners.

my 6s quad with a vista freeze twice. I already have a 35v1000uf on the fc and a 35v470uf with an absorbing spike on the lipo pad. I saw in the dvr, that the lipo voltage drops when the freeze occurs. and on the second freeze, thanks to my runcam 5, i heard the fc reboot. i realized that my xt60 connector was not tight enough so i pulled the pins aside to make better contact. Difficult to establish a diagnosis because it is random. I ll try to add a cap.

It seems like if you run your AU or Vista off a regulator, that should help quite a bit. Switching regulators are already filtered with caps. Yeah, they're smaller caps but that's because the current draw the regulator is spec'd for is pretty small (couple amps). When you're drawing off the main battery, the caps have to be HUGE because the ESC's are so hungry for power that you get large voltage spikes on the battery leads.

It's an interesting challenge even on analog - like if you use the 5v reg on your VTX and Cam, it's pretty hard to "see" noise. Digital really steps this difficulty up. That being said, noise aside, I've had my DJI unit "freeze" and I can almost guarantee that it isn't related to noise (4s, has a 1000uf 35v, AND is on a 9v regulator, no SD cards in anything) - in an area that's usually fine for analog, and usually fine for DJI - every once and a while the video just locks up - control is via DJI transmitter and that keeps on going just fine with a frozen image. it's just an area with a flash of bad reception which analog pushes through ... once every 100+ passes DJI just locks up. Similarly, once every 100+ passes analog gets really snowy for a few ms and you just push through easily (with a bit of pucker factor), but the recapture of signal from DJI takes seconds and by that time i've crashed or disarmed. Just a difference between analog and digital's handling of low reception.

Very interesting... I would love to know what type of interference that is. Couldn't just be low signal could it?
@CesiumSalami
4 жыл бұрын
@@Furadi Jeez. I dunno. It's a somewhat remote and very sheltered area (200+ meters of trees and dirt until you hit the first house). The main interference sources would be something in my house (which has a fully copper roof)... maybe there's something directional I'm missing. But this particular turn goes from good LOS to pretty severely obstructed signal very quickly. Waves of visibility come through if I land at the apex of this turn on analog (but still flyable) and digital goes straight to ultra-blur which is barely flyable: surface is pavement, very dense trees, just passing into the shadow of a dirt hill, a row of shoulder high granite rocks, AND THEN this turn passes over a garage with a fully copper roof. And usually where this happens is in the shadow of that roof. Dunno ... I'm having a hard time recalling when this happened last since upgrading all around to TrueRC stuff. But honestly, every time an update comes out, I update to the latest release, fly my DJI rig a bunch with the new hotness. And then often it just goes back on the shelf unless i just want to cruise above the trees somewhere and see the sights or slow explore in the branches - otherwise my analog setups are just much more confidence inspiring in this area (for me).

I was out flying yesterday for the second time and my video froze for a split second just as it did before. The only thing I can think of is replacing the stock DJI antennas maybe one of them has been messed up since I got them that’s the only thing I can think is my antennas are defective. I have sent my goggles back to DJI they downgraded my firmware and sent them back because I couldn’t get them to activate I did get them to activate obviously. I would really like to know your thoughts on this matter I’m ordering new antennas today should I possibly add a cab to the Vista unit if this doesn’t work? Also do you maybe spend that 20 x 20 flight controllers don’t like the DJI voltage along with 6S????

Hey, I had this happen to me running 4.2. And jesc.rpm filtering. On 3s toothpick build. I fixed it by going into the esc configurator and I set the motor timing to medium instead of medium-high like they tell you for rpm filtering. Ran smoother and I’m guessing it’s less amp drawl because motors are spinning less... Maybe this will help you if you haven’t tried.

I erased card, initialized and started over and everything was fine. Could you just take the props off and give the motors some high revs to test this instead of flying line of site? If it’s a voltage spike that’s causing the freeze maybe it could be more safely replicated on a bench.
@Furadi

No no not really, you need a load to actually draw current. When I worked at Thrust-UAV I actually test flew every quad that came off the production line because we couldn't replicate issues on the bench.

Not really. you need the props on flying to know. The big spikes come from flips and rolls. Much more so than throttle punches. 1000+ degree per sec flips and rolls bring out the big spikes every time.
