I don't usually include intros in my videos, but thought I'd try it this time. Generally you want to get straight to the point to keep your retention numbers higher and an intro can hurt retention. Let's call this a test! Should I continue including intros like this? If so, keep them at 30 seconds? Shorter? Let me know your thoughts! Cheers :-)

If ithe introduction is super short it's ok but if you watch all of someone's videos then it becomes redundant to hear it over and over after a while. When I come upon a video where there is a long introduction with endless video of, e.g. flowers, with music, then I fast forward which can be anoying.

@@RobtheMaritimer Hey, I was surprised that I heard you doing an intro because you normally don't. Following your teaching I would say no for this video, it's your core subject matter. Also it's a 3rd video in a quick release series. If you want to do intro's, that's fine, very short 10-15 seconds. Watch your analytics for any changes. That's where it really counts. Thanks, Lee.

Hey rob, we make almost all of our videos outside, as we are an RV travel channel, we use the DJI mic2 with a mini dead cat, but on windy days, put it under your shirt, if you did that in this video it would have drastically reduced the wind noise in this video. Get the MIC 2 much better, worth the extra money. I use the mic 2 connected to my action 4, no extra receiver needed, which is why we switched from go pro to DJI action 4 in January. Larry

Thanks for the under shirt mic tip Leapnlarry! Yeah, Rob, the video that you did with the iPhone mic, unfortunately, I didn't make it through the video. This one is much better. And I do find it interesting what they say about audio. The one where you were focused on the background, I was fine watching that one. I would be interesting in hearing what it sounds like on a windy day like that with the noise cancelling on (assuming it wasn't on and the DJI mic have noise cancelling).

There's another HUGE benefit that the DJI Mic 2 has over the first one. Mic 2 records 32-bit audio internally (on board). So, you can set the levels however you want, and with the higher dynamic range of the 32-bit audio, you can adjust the levels in post reducing any clipping of the audio. Or if you recorded too low, you can turn up the levels in post without loss in audio quality. I own the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo, which comes with the DJI Mic 2. It's quite impressive.

Personally I like a 30 second hook and then I’m ok with an intro compilation but prefer something different and relevant to the video. I also love my DJIs. I bought the DJi pocket 3 creator kit. Annoyingly the DJi lavs aren’t compatible with the pocket 3 so I needed to get the creator kit which was more expensive. All the mics are good though. Another great video. It would be good if the dead cats and the cable fitted into the case.

Very helpful video. We have the DJI wireless 2 creator combo but have had lots of issues with having a buzzing sound when used with our iPhone randomly. Some videos sound great but then others have an annoying buzzing sound. We had no idea that you could use it without the receiver/transmitter and sync the audio in editing. Will have to give it a try.
@RobtheMaritimer

When you say "creator combo", are you referring to the kit that includes the Osmo Pocket camera? I don't have that... I only have the DJI Mic system so I can't really help you with your issue. A buzzing sound sounds like maybe it's interference? Or maybe a problem with the unit? If you can't figure out why or how/if it can be fixed, I'd be tempted to return it and get another one... might just be a faulty unit. But perhaps try searching for your problem in google to see if others have experienced it and/or if there is a fix first. I hope that helps... good luck!

@@travelingexpats I have not noticed that at all... do you get it in the iPhone recording (audio through the receiver)? Or the onboard recording (recorded directly to the mic)? Or does the buzzing occur in both locations? If it only happens through the transeicver/receiver into the camera, then maybe you can use the onboard recording instead? I love that you can also record directly to the mics without even using the receiver :-)

Yes, the one I use is JOBY GorillaPod 3K: amzn.to/3B5WlMj But the way I use it with my iPhone is with a QuadLock connector because I have a Quadlock case on my phone. It makes it super easy to "twist and lock" the phone into place. I've included links to the two Quadlock items needed in the description of this video (iPhone 14 Pro Max case, and tripod adaptor). If you go that route, make sure you get the right case for your model iPhone :-)

I hope you find this comment constructive. I noticed when you started this video, you had notes your pocket. The last few videos were good, but I'm finding that your videos are becoming more ramble than content. I think it's worth adding more to your notes and even being transparent that you're reading your notes. This is the harshest part of this comment, so sorry in advance: At 2:57 specifically, you mention that you're going to make a video comparing the AirPods mic vs the DJI. This should have just been that video. Especially that at the time that I'm writing this comment, this video is actually titled: "DJI Mic vs AirPods Pro vs iPhone - I was WRONG!" - but you didn't even bring the AirPods with you. If I was a new viewer to this channel, I'd consider this lazy and would even click the 'Don't recommend this channel to me' button. Again, sorry if this is harsh, but people who don't know you are going to be ruthless. And I'm just trying to be real about the way this video came off. One major thing about the DJI Mic 2 you didn't mention is that the mic is capable of 32 bit float and why that can be important. (Especially in very noisy conditions you don't have control over) - something that you could have read off notes, which is fine. Don't get me wrong, I get that you want to put out content fast. But is it worth re-shooting sometimes and just not putting a video out, and actually getting a video out that's better? Again, not trying to hate or be a jerk about it, because I suffer from the same thing as well. I've done videos that were filled with rambling vs value. And I'm my own worse critic, so I'm trying my best to improve on that as well. I'm sure I make WAY worse mistakes than you do, and I'm not trying to act like content creation is easy. Because it isn't. I am saying this with total love and hoping it helps you to improve / continue to grow. Like you, I have invested thousands of dollars in it and get frustrated when I get criticism from people who don't understand what we go through. But I do understand, and I'm sorry to be a buzz-kill of sorts. Don't be afraid to read off notes. I think as content creators, we get nervous about showing that we need notes sometimes- because maybe we don't want to be perceived as non-knowledgable. But the opposite becomes true. Wishing you success and improvement, and sorry AGAIN if this was rough to read. ❤
