The Lark M1 having no internal recording and no jack for external microphones put them into a whole different category I think. Also, connectivity is another differentiator: the Rode and the DJI can act like USB microphones, I enjoy using the RODE with my smartphone connected through USB-C: it offers stereo recording capability on a smartphone and this way the audio circuitry of the phone is bypassed, all is high quality digital audio.
@Engearment

Good call on the internal recording. I actually never use that function. But I can see how that can be a plus for a lot of people. I have not used them as USB mics either, as I rely on my Sure SM7B (which is very nice! but overkill for many situations LOL) You bring up some really good points. One big advantage for some people will be the onboard recording on the DJI. It won’t matter to some people but as an example you could use it with a GoPro without a media MOD or mic adapter and sync in post. You can't connect a Lav to the M1. Other than that I think it sounds almost as good as the GO. I have a M1 and a GO, I also think the GO has a better range when a lot of interference is near( like cell phones ). As long as you are within 25 feet or an open field it should not be problem. The low end need a little help in post for me, but I mean very little help. I got mine for $115 on Prime Day and plan to use them to do some interviews. I have sound meters and a headphone jack on the ZV-E10 so the fact that it does not have meters is not a problem. As you could hear it could have a problem with hair noise from beards and long hair so you might want to use the wind hat at all times. I was happy with the buy and even if I do get something better later, I will always carry the M1 as a backup.

Thanks for the great review & video! I have an odd sort of use for such a mic; I want to record sleep-talking. I suppose I could clip the mic to my shirt collar (I am a side-sleeper, so I don't think it would present a comfort problem). I could also use the 2 mics (stereo mode) and clip one to each side of my pillow. I'm not sure how strong the clips are - whether they would remain attached all night. I'm using a Galaxy A51 Android 12 phone. I would like to be able to record only when I talk, and there are several apps available for that purpose; however, I also play a nature soundtrack (rushing stream) while I sleep, so I don't know whether I can set the app to ignore the background noise and record only when I talk. I suppose I could try the noise cancelling feature on the mics, but I have my doubts about that working. I might also want to record audio continuously to my Windows 10 PC using Reaper DAW. I would of course need to edit the file in Reaper to avoid having to listen to 6 hours of noise with a few moments of talk. That is very easy to do in the DAW, so I'm not concerned about it. From your review, I believe this system will work. I may only need 1 mic, but I like the package that includes 2 mics and the charging case, plus the USB C adapter for my Android phone. One other thing: Which method would you use to record to Windows PC? The 3.5mm connected to the mic input on my PC, or the USB-C adapter? I assume that if I use the adapter, Windows will recognize the mic and allow me to route audio from it into Reaper (or any other app). I apologize for the long comment, but I have never used any of these mics before. Thanks Ethan Edit: I note in the Hollyland Mark 1 description on Amazon, it states that the 3.5mm to USB-C adapter is not included in the kit; in addition, it states that their adapter will not work for Samsung phones (I have the Galaxy A51), and to purchase the adapter from Samsung. Can you think of a reason another brand adapter would not work? I went to the Samsung store, and found the adapter, but it doesn't get good reviews, so I am hesitant to purchase it.

Rest ie best sound , internal recording system , battery and larve attachment etc are 2ndry option group. So lets consider u are very low on budget and requires a light microphone HollyLand is the winner starting at 150$ Boya XM6 S2 on 2nd 170-199$ Rode and DJI are not recommended. However if u can cope with size but need good quality but are still on a budget. Going for a Rode wireless 1 for 120-165$ is a great option. Followed By Boya XM6 .

I figure I can get by with one transmitter for most of what I want to do, which is recording myself. If I ever get into the realm of doing interviews with more than one person, then I’d probably just buy the two transmitter system and have 3 with a backup receiver. It should work right out of the gate. There are a couple of different mic cables included, so perhaps try the other ones. Make sure the mics and receiver are on (I know, that is basic, but it does happen from time to time) I have not used Canon, but this mic system has worked with my Sony, Panasonic, and computers.

Thank you, it is a very interesting video. I have the Rode Wireless Go II now. Actually I wanted to get the Rode when it was released but could not buy it then. Then DJI came out with their mic and I pre-ordered it immediately. But it did not come to Europe until August 2022 which is close to a year after release... In the meanwhile our currency got devalued quite a bit meaning these mics went up on price gradually. So there was a point where I just did not want to wait longer for the DJI Mic. So I have been using the Rode now for a few months and so far I am happy. There are a number of great features therein and I have invented a few small hacks that make it even better. I am thinking of shooting a short video about those hacks :) For example I no longer have the mic falling forward on your shirt issue you talk about :)

That is frustrating. I feel you on that. I was on the waitlist for months for the DJI, heck they even reached out to work together first! Must have been a supply issue. Thank you for sharing your side of the pond situation. Provides good context for the viewers and readers. Cheers!

For live streaming using Switcher Studio, what system is there to monitor what the other person is saying, (with no lag) if they are not next to you? For example, commenting on a sports game and the other person walks away a bit more than being in earshot. So we are not on camera, so we can have any type of headphones on and any type of microphone? I note the DJI have an headphone option

@@Engearment Appreciate the reply! I have a follow up question! Can you transmit and record with the Hollyland mics without the transmitter being plugged into a recording device (i.e. a camera, DJi controller). For example, if I am using multiple cameras but want to have the audio recorded separately from all cameras, can I use the two mics and transmit the audio to the receiver without it being plugged into any of the cameras and record the audio? Then obviously sync the audio up after the fact. Or does the transmitter piece need to be plugged into one of the cameras or some device in order to record and save the audio? Thanks!

@@Engearment I appreciate it! Yeah as I was asking the question I thought to myself, hmm even if it needs to be plugged into something I can just get a stand alone audio recorder to plug it in to in order to record my audio on its own! I will say I love the fact the DJi mics have local recording, might just spend the extra cash on them just for that convenience. The quality in order between them and the Hollyland does not entice me to spend twice the amount, it's not that noticeable IMO. However that functionality will just be less headache and less gear I would need for what I want to do! Thanks again for answering my questions!

Thanks for making this video. I teach online yoga/fitness. I've found that headset mics give me the best sound without clothing noise that I might get from clipping a mic onto my shirt. But the M1 would be more convenient than wearing a headset. Did you say that you use the M1 for workout videos? You don't get noise from the mic rubbing on clothing?

Hello fellow fitness coach! You are correct, the M1 was used for virtual sessions and group classes. Worked very well as it is lighter weight than the Rode Wireless Go set up. I simply clip it to the inside of my shirt (as I do in this video) and it stays in place very well. No rubbing from clothing or noise from making contact with my neck when doing certain movements.
