Dji also has the horizon lock feature and horizon balance. I think you maybe rushed through this comparison and favored GoPro a little. I switched from GoPro to dji when the first action came out, much better app, way easier user interface, and dji always catches up with software updates. GoPro is what it is the software updates are not great if any. Also you forgot to mention one of the biggest issues. GoPro still over heats and dji fixed that issue and still charges way less. Seems like a easy pick for me.

But, you have to admit, the stabilization and the overall picture looks better on the GoPro. Does it look 100 dollars better? For me and the way that I film, 5.3K at 60 is hard to beat. But, for long recording sessions the overheating can and will cause issues. Just my 2 cents

For the DJI front screen, you can change the view mode to get the whole image rather than just central part, it's in the setting. Also, the front screen is touchable for DJI, which is pretty useful in some scenario. I have a GoPro right now and my next camera will definitely be a DJI. The GoPro is just not reliable enough for me. I had too many corrupted SD Cards and lost or damaged files on it. Of course I format the SD Cards only in the GoPro itself and I only use the recommended cards for it. However, I have at least one corrupted file after every shoot. Last time I was on a 6-week/2500 miles Bikepacking trip where I almost lost a full week of footage... I also use a lot of DJI equipment or other cameras (Sony, Nikon, etc) and I may had one damaged SD card in my whole life so far on other devices. @ChaitanyaBhagwat
2 жыл бұрын
You really have to pause and look for the problems. At a glance sure the Osmo looks better at low light because it's brighter than the GoPro. In fact, the Osmo overexposes in a lot of shooting conditions. It's when you look at the shadows and the blacks, you can start seeing the crazy amount of noise from the Osmo's sensor. You might be referring to the Potato Jet comparison. If you pause the footage and look for the noise, you'll see that the GoPro actually has better (but darker) footage. You could even possibly increase the exposure from the GoPro footage in post and still end up with lesser noise compared to the Osmo

Hey @@ChaitanyaBhagwat, I've watched all the comparison videos because I am looking to buy, and low light performance is extremely important to me. @@BrooksCF looks to me like the gopro is doing a lot more processing of the sensor signal, there are clear signs of denoise/smoothing filters in the clip here (also in other comparisons). It's not going to be easy to tell what the actual sensors are capable of until someone does a rather more thorough test, including flat/d-cinelike captures and manual mode interventions so that they're exposing the same. That said, that stuff is mostly relevant to people who'd want to mess with and grade videos afterwards. For those wishing to point and shoot in default auto modes the gopro looks like it will be preferred by most for image quality.

I still like DJI's app better, especially since I also have and use the Pocket. The Action definitely has less detail, but it does look to have slightly better contrast. And if the battery pops out like the Action, it sounds like minor detail but you know what I mean when you compare it to trying to do a battery swap on a GoPro.
@stevey500

The "better" contrast of the osmo action 3 is a real take-away from dynamic range. Action cam capturing is random and haphazard- when the sun is blaring into the lens, shadows are retained so well on the gopro, the osmo action camera series loses the shadows. Even though the osmo action 3 appears under-exposed, you'd figure it'd retain highlights better than the gopro yet it doesn't. This has been a trend of all 3 osmo action cameras, kind of strange. The gopro doesn't come without faults of their track record of awful reliability but they arguably have the best out-of-camera usable image quality that's just ready to go.

I really dig the dyinamic range on the gopro over the osmo, but from past experiences(Had Gopro 10 and original osmo action) the sharpness of the gopro is not real detail, rather just oversharpening, and have prefered the osmo action footage more, just seems more natural, but cant say about these. Hopefull on what 10 bit can do for color grading on both of them.

I have a Hero 7 Black and have trouble with it getting hot, shutting down, and repairing which means losing my footage. Most of the time it is mounted to my motorcycle handlebars with a sound sponge to reduce air noise. Have they fixed the overheating problem? I rarely put it on my helmet chin mount because of the weight. Which is lighter? Great video, thanks.

HorizonSteady vs HorizonBalancing, your info at @7:25 isn't really accurate because the HorizonBalancing has the 45 degree limit, the HorizonSteady can do the full 360 rotation.

Great comparison Matti! I'm still rocking the original osmo action. Is it worth the upgrade and it seems my nd filters will work on the 3. Any thoughts?

Great review. I think I'm going to wait for the Gopro 11 mini. I was hoping the Max 2 was going to come out this year.

Personal the go pro looks way better to me. I like that GoPro created the mini to also accommodate when smaller camera is needed

GoPro was more vibrant, sharper, and a little more detailed. Is it $170 better? Not for my usage.

People saying that Go Pro has better IQ, its just very over sharpened. It looks like iphone video. If you want something that will match well with a real mirrorless camera, go for the DJI. Also the DJI has better color science imo.

I wouldn’t buy either of them now, if you wait a little while, GoPro will drop the price and DJI will update firmware to change picture quality.

@@alexilaiho321 it was a suggestion for a more a better comparison if you are on the fence about the 2 cameras. DJI just seems to release optimized hardware, then releases software updates to catch up based on reviews. Right out the gate you’ve got a camera that won’t overheat and controls on the front screen, but picture quality seems to be lacking compared to GoPro. Since it is digitally enhanced video a firmware update might the overall picture quality closer to the GoPro.

How is your video so crisp and clean ? I saw other review videos and they are not that sharp ! Great review man. And also, Is there a trick to upload videos to youtube to avoid so it doesn't degrade the quality of a go pro footage ?

Buy 2 second hand osmo action 1 for less than one of the new ones. If you shoot in 4k 24/25 fps there is going to be almost no difference between them. The sensor and image are almost identical

At the end of the day, it’s the person that uses it. The way they film, the way you capture a story :) both are great, personally with action cameras I’d go GoPro and for DJI it’s their drones,
