Great video, BAD advice about flying in manual mode. Everyone needs to learn how to fly it in manual mode. This is uber important. DJI absolutely recommends this for all novice flyers. DJI found the main reason for flyaways is the inability of the pilot to fly in manual mode. Other than that you are spot on! Awesome video! I would also recommend that anyone getting this join the AMA because with membership you get $2.5m in liability, $10k in accidental death, and $1k in hull insurance. You don't want to lose your home if someone sues you because you crashed on them or their property.

I got a standard about 2 months ago. Very easy to fly. I did crash it twice. The first time no damage. I just shut everything down and restarted. The second time my camera broke off the gimbal. I had to buy an electrical flexible ribbon. It was easy to replace and I am back up and flying. Great video.

Awesome! I've had a couple of accidents myself. Once, while it was circling a point of interest, it flew into a tree before I had the chance to switch back to manual and take over. I broke some props, but once I put on the replacement props, I was back into the air. These drones are really resilient.

Robert M Place: good point about flying manual. I guess my advice would be this: learn to fly manual on a cheaper drone. I have a $99 drone coming that I plan on flying manual, so that way if and when I crash flying, I won't be out so much money!
@potjnkye86
8 жыл бұрын
Lol there is no full manual mode on the 3. If you'd like to try full manual try the fc-40 with full manual that removes all sensors and safeguards and you have to fly it like a helicopter. The "manual" mode in the three is known as atti or attitude which when the controls are let go of it completely levels itself and professional photographers have said many times it is a better mode to use because the gps mode makes it jerky. the cheaper drones like the very small ones and syma's have attitude mode that keep them flat when there is no control being input. but with my FC-40 in Full Manual is capable of flips and rolls going completely upside down. Any one that wants to fly in this mode I always suggest them to purchase a simulator such as phoenix. Not as 100% realistic as real flight but 95% and has an amazing selection of planes helicopters and multirotors not to mention the option to build your own along with a tutorial on how to do so. the fun part on the simulators is taking a fifth scale jet and enlarging it to full size and then flying a full size B-52 for instance from the ground. DJI got smart and removed full manual mode as too many got in over their heads and destroyed their drone. the worst I ever did was smack the landing skids to the ground doing a backflip.
@potjnkye86
8 жыл бұрын
+Edster The Man don't be scared. just obey regulations and always be sure to watch your GPS status and get apps that watch solar activity cause solar storms can cause fly aways. other than that the Phantom pretty much flies itself. if you can fly a syma a phantom is nothing.

I bought one for my son at Christmas and it has basically stayed in the box. We did initially fly it in Scotland above farm land. However, we did not have permission. That has been the problem. Since moving back to England we have found it extremely difficult to find somewhere scenic to fly and get nice aerial shots. Very disappointing. Even places where remote planes used to be flown when I was a child, drones are banned. There`s no fun here anymore. Always someone to spoil the fun and then complain that the children are never out doing things like `they` used to.

Excellent job with your review, I found it very informative with easy to understand with "layman"s" terms to explain it's features and use. Far too many of these reviews try to dazzle us with terms or gimmicks but yours was simple, straight forward and I am very happy with the video quality and information. These are now on amazon for around $499 so the price has dropped to an even better rate. I currently have a Syma X5SW which for around $50 I would highly recommend as an entry level Quadcopter. The gyro makes it simple to fly and the small camera surprised me with it's quality/price ratio. It's also nice to not worry about crashing a &500 copter vs. the $50 while learning.

unless one is going to use it for actual photography there is no need for the pro which is 1250 USD. because with the new wifi extender which has two antennas that point out the front of the transmitter I can fly it beyond line of sight and still get crisp non glitchy video with only milliseconds worth of lag. DJI advertises 1000m or 3000 feet on a clear day which is more than enough for the everyday person just looking to get into the sky and get some shots of where they are. The standard is an amazing drone the only issue I have is the antenna wire that has absolutely NO slack and the old style transmitter that in my fc-40 I replaced with a spektrum and once I figure out the wifi setup I'll be doing the same to my 3 maybe. Until then I'm gonna continue to love my awesome upgrade from the very first phantom to the 7th phantom installment.

2 weeks in to ownership, I'm only having one issue with my P3 standard, it does not respond well near or underneath trees. I have a lot of oak trees on my property and noticed when the device was moving down our driveway, 6ft off the ground and while under the tree line it would not continue forward, only back -left-right commands worked. Other than that it's great..

I'm thinking about purchasing the pro and doing a review. Not totally sold yet though. In my opinion, the camera on the Standard is very very good. It's 2k (not 4K) but still very good. So in my opinion the only real upgrade that the advanced and pro models offer is distance. They use a different kind of technology to communicate between the controller and the drone, and it allows you to fly further distances and a lot higher (where it's legal to do that). The biggest limitation with the standard is that I can only fly it about 1 km away before the drone initiates auto-return-home because the signal starts to get too weak.
@thewingcommander
8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the range is the thing I'm interested in, not that I need it, but if I'm gonna invest in a drone I want it to 'future proof' to what needs I may have. Not flown a drone before, and yeah considering a cheap model, but the GPS on these should if anything make it easier as a first model? I could well imagine I'd be over cautious to begin with. Wherever I do buy from you can be sure I'll pass your url to this vid their way as it's a big deciding factor. I got a lot of in car vids for my channel, be good to get some aerial footage on there.

Thanks Techy Agent, i just purchased one for our early Christmas. We love it. The only thing that concerns us was when we tried to use Return to Home feature (2 times) the drone would hover in place and then slowly descend from where ever it was. I had to fly the drone back toward me while it was dropping. However once it got to less than a foot off the ground it hovered and did a perfect landing. I did calibrate prior to takeoff. Any ideas?
@TechyAgent
8 жыл бұрын
You will need to wait 30 to 60 seconds before taking off after you have calibrated. The app will usually say something like "Home point updated", letting you know it has a new GPS coordinate for your home point when it returns home. If you take off prior to the home point being updated, it may not work properly when you use the home return feature

Ben kitchen Why? They are pole towers using the air as the primary insulator. The only impact of damage would be physical impact. The reason for this is because there isn’t a shock or current when the drone is in the air. If you were to touch the pole while in contact with the ground, chances are, you have about 100kv passing through you. Trust me on this one.

Eric, Will all those automatic flight mode avoid obstacles? For example if the drone is half a mile away and programmed to fly home automatically, will it avoid trees?
@TechyAgent

No, only the Phantom 4 has obstacle avoidance.

+Austin Hartman thanks Austin! I actually used some of my own work using Motion 5, Final Cut Pro X, and Adobe Photoshop. Some of the graphics were also obtained by me hiring a professional who makes cg for a living. I combines the different graphics together to make what you see on my videos now. Perhaps I'll go into more depth in a video someday

did you ever have the propellers intrude into your footage? ive heard a lot about that
@TechyAgent
8 жыл бұрын
+Anthony Rappold yes, if you are flying fast or flying into the wind, propellers can show up from time to time. If you're shooting in 2K footage, you can always crop the footage to 1080 P to get rid of the propellers

Love the video mate and great instruction. The camera that comes with the DJI, can this be removed and fitted with something like a Sony AS15 and will the gimbal still work, I guess it will but who knows? cheers for now.
@TechyAgent

+Rob Beard my understanding is that the gimbal and Camera are a combined assembly, not meant to work with other cameras

Does the P3 standard require you to be connected to Wi-Fi or have a service connection on your phone/tablet for you to live stream flight video?
@TechyAgent
8 жыл бұрын
No, the P3 uses its own onboard signal to stream to the phone/tablet. You don't need a separate connection.

do you recommend this phantom 3 standard , do you think that the pro is a much better , i don't wan to spend to mucho money so thinking about to buy the standard
@TechyAgent
8 жыл бұрын
I think the pro is better in two aspects: it has a better camera and a farther range of control. But that being said, The standard has a fantastic camera and it's own right, and it has the ability to go way farther than even I am comfortable with. The standard will fit the needs of 9 out of 10 people.

+Techy Agent So I'm am too thinking of buying the Advance or the standard. How often do you find that you don't have GPS signal with the standard drone. I understand the Standard only uses GPS only and that Advance and Pro use GPS+GLONASS Dual Positioning Module.
@gtdrone21
8 жыл бұрын
definitely the advance and the pro is a better option, if you have the money go a head and buy it ,in my case the advance here in my country is 1300 usd is to expensive so i buy the standard and also i didn't hear bad comments about the GPS here so I think I'm ok :)

+ATEC Atec you don't really need 4k on a drone. If you fix the colors of the drone, the video quality is perfect

Hi tech agent the one question when i search up and doesn't come up is can you connect a go pro 4 to the dpi phantom 3 standard?
@curtiswilliams7642
7 жыл бұрын
Dawn-Mtb_Ltd you can connect anything to it that isnt too heavy or wont affect its flying. just be sure to find a good way to attach it so that it wont fall. ive found the sticky pads that come with the GoPros work quite nicely

DJI to this day say on their website the advanced has 2.7k same as the standard but on youtube vidoes it says advanced has 1080p if anyone could help that would be amazing
@TechyAgent
8 жыл бұрын
So originally the advanced was only 1080 P and the Standard was 2.7 k. The professional was 4K. My understanding is that the advanced received either an upgraded camera or firmware update to bring the camera to 2.7 k. So the video were right until recently when DJI made the change.

I tried flying this thing without gps in manual mode and it just took off on me and crashed into the tree. Thankfully it did not break and still works fine. My advice to everyone is do not fly this drone in manual if you are beginner the speed is just uncontrollable
