Finally someone is posting videos here for the demand as creator we are facing now. I have a Ronin S at the moment and I used an "L-Bracket" to mount my camera on my gimbal to shoot vertical videos or my clients. Thank you Daniel and keep it up man!

Thanks, this worked for me! Got it to balance with both the 20mm f/1.8G and 24mm f/1.4GM. Unfortunate that I can't control the tilt of the camera anymore but at least I'm vertical! I don't mind buying the DJI R vertical camera mount but they're out of stock everywhere.

Hi, thanks for the tipps, but think about it, this format is only for smartphone displays. So little displays where you'll never see a quality difference... its not worth all the hustle, just shoot in 4K, put the Ninja in 9:16 display mode, frame your shot, push REC and thats it.

Thanks Daniel, But But But, almost all vertical video is 1080p max for upload. It’s is true you loose resolution if you shoot in landscape, but if you shoot in 4k then when you crop you will be still be more than 1080p, so your not really loosing resolution for the main vertical apps like REELS, TikTok and Shorts. So yes it is true you resolution is reduced, but it doesn’t matter due to the limit set by the apps upload. Of course if you are shooting in 1080p, or using the vertical video for something else then yes you are correct.

I just like using the whole sensor. It looks so much more crisper to work with. I'd rather work with the best image at the source so I can always crop in and out if needs be. Using the full sensor will always trump filming landscape for vertical.

I recommended Dji Gimbals to my Chef. And he bought the RS3 while being very stern, that this Gimbal has to do the job for that price. I was in shock, that the Combo-Set didn't include thw vertical mount and I just don't get why it is so hard fo Dji to realize that modern times need modern Gimbals. Well, needless to say, I couldn't bring myself to tell my Chef that we needed the mount or else the Gimbal is useless. 😢

Get a cage for your camera, mount the screw that connects to the slider of the gimbal on the side of your camera so that way your camera is mounted vertical

Cage makes it too heavy for my zoom lens unfortunatley, otherwise I would.

Quick question love the hack but I will be doing a lot of vertical work so I bought the DJI vertical part. Question is does the smallrig monitor quick release clamp lock in like the handle does. I used another nato clamp handle and due to the weight I wasn’t able to hold the gimbal by the nato handle.

Incredibly frustrating that the display on the RS3 pro doesn't adjust for when the gimbal is in portrait mode, and activetrack is rendered useless. Apparently dji didn't think that people might want to use both portrait mode and activetrack at the same time.

i've been working on my vertical rig but having trouble with the hdmi cable. i have ordered 3 different ones so far, all coiled cables, some right angle, down angle, etc. none of them are working with my setup, they are all causing the gimbal to be unbalanced as they rub up against it. do you have any recommendations? i ordered the one you're using but not sure if it will work either. have you had any issues with hdmi cable causing gimbal to be unbalanced/rubbing up against it?

Why the need for a cage for the Ninja V? That just adds extra weight. The Ninja is already well built and doesn't need the protection of a cage

Have you found a way to be able to run both the Sony Alpha series via USB-C and the Atomos Ninja V via HDMI/Micro HDMI at the same time? I have this similar setup with the RS2, A7iii & Ninja V. My Dilemma is that the camera won't support both the USB-C & HDMI inputs working at the same time while in Movie Mode as the Ninja V will not show anything on the screen. As soon as the USB-C is removed it will pop up no problems. I am yet to try this in just manual mode (as opposed to movie mode) as I am not sure of the limitation or issue when filming in manual compared to movie mode.

Truly appreciate this video but I'm a bit confused. The L bracket is cheaper than the smallrig handle alone, thats not even including the ninja v mount or the fact that the gimbal blocks the camera screen. How is this way an advantage?

It's a hack to get you out of a pickle. It's not perfect, but it'll work. The vertical mount is the way to go if you're shooting lots for this particular method of filming.

@LucasJohnsonVisuals

@@koreywillis3357 Thats odd, but good! This is what B&H said and I found to be true for my case as well. "The DJI R Vertical Camera Mount for RS 2 Gimbal (B&H# DJRVCM) is designed to attach to the long vertical arm/rail of the DJI RS 2 Gimbal Stabilizer (B&H# DJRONINS2). That vertical arm/rail extends far below the position where the camera would be mounted horizontally on the RS 2. In contrast, the vertical arm/rail of the DJI RS 3 Gimbal Stabilizer (B&H# DJRS3) is short and does not extend far below the horizontal mount for the camera. That will make the setup unbalanced and top heavy. We cannot recommend that.
