If I were to ask my horse to even trot or canter next to another horse that closely... she'd take a chunk out of the other horse. VERY impressed at how these horses are trained!

Anyone who is 'into' the Gentle Art Of Dressage needs to look into it's origins. This is it. Dressage evolved from war horses - war horses who could move to the side at the lightest command/aid in order to survive: war horses who could carry a sword-weilding soldier into battle, unfazed: war horses who trusted their human enough to do what they were 'trained' to do without question - a bit like soldiers! Without horses in war, there would be no "dressage".

The only way a horse would let their rider do this is if their rider truly loved them.. so they are obviously well looked after and are enjoying what they are doing...

Great example of true (military) horsemanship from the Russian Federation! The root of dressage and a far better example of horsemanship than seen in any Pony Club Games today, despite their origins being from Cavalry.

Hallo from Ireland, a lot of very difficult and dangerous maneuvers. But I I'd say 4:23 is tough to complete. I know of a point-to-point jockey (amateur horse racing across farmers fields jumping steeplechase fences ) the man held on around the horses neck after being unseated at a fence. Then horses knee hit his back, he's now in a wheel chair. sláinte

actually this is going back to the 'origin' of equitation. back to when horseback riding wasn't about winning ribbons but wars. back when the ability to jump off and back onto your horse to avoid detection(aka so your enemy thought that the horse was running riderless) was more important than collection of the quarters. and its also about preserving tradition even while moving forward (cause i doubt the original riders had half of the equipment they do like the saddle design bridle type ect)

they've changed minutely such as leathers being interchangeable the irons have begun to have different shapes for different disciplines as well as bridles/bits starting to be less invasive and aggressive and opt for a more soft 'feel' instead of relying on hard domination. but yes their base shape is still pretty close to the same as it was in i believe the 1800s ( i think 1815ish was the last BIG change in saddlery

Very cool, combining drill team, trick riding and games. The stuff with the swords I'd be terrified to do, no matter how good I was at doing it on the ground I'd be scared I'd miss judge and stabb my horse. I actually as a kid had one of those swords with a plastic handle and the foam "blade" and tried it while riding my mare I had at the time. Smacked her in the head I dunno hhow many times....she wasn't too impressed lol poor horse. Good job guys very neat and gorgeous horses.

no harm was done to these horses if you have any kind of knowledge, what little they were in the horses mouth was nothing, and they have soft snaffles in the horses mouth. and the horse jumping over the fire was like running you hand over the top of the flames which is not harmful! They are pretty talents riders and horses. I am a horse lover, ride dressage and think they are pretty awesome.

true, most people are naive enough to think that Rollkur aka dragging the horses head to its chest is collection and where some horses will round out most horses still have a hollow back and in my opinion a pained expression. thats why for the most part when someone says collection & equitation lately i start thinking they mean Rollkur instead. its a fault but sadly thats what things are turning towards.
