It's the djoNRW or "das junge orchester NRW". Could be translated as "the young orchestra North Rhine-Westphalia" (a state of Germany) www.djo-nrw.de

Why does this group play separately? I played this symphony a couple of times, I remember the cow bells, but not this.

They play seperately for the purpose of sounding distant. Maybe something like hunters playing in the mountains. From the stage it sounds much different, check for example this: kzitem.info/news/bejne/26mK1WuHsaqYjJwm35s

It’s meant to sound like swiss Alphorns (long wooden natural horns used for communication in the Alps) in the distance. Many of the horn solos in the piece also mimic the Alphorn somewhat, sometimes, a real Alphorn is used. kzitem.info/news/bejne/o22Q3GxocJuLeG0

@@mogmason6920 no, it’s meant to be a hunting party off in the distance with hunting horns.

30 seconds of playing - same paycheck as the rest of the orchestra 😂

I actually remember that I had to pay, in order to be allowed to play in this project (mostly covering food and stay). We had a few extra horns that day that could join for free. For musical students, it's a huge deal to play a piece like Alpine Symphony. Until today, it was an experience I will never forget and was 100% worth every cent.
