Thanks for the follow up, I could sense a little humble pie, which is good for all of us. Good work.

I use the Covert solar panels on all my cameras. Just not worth the hassle of trying to make my own units.

Oh and I get what you’re talking about now. Had to go back and watch the video. I had my kids with me when I was shooting that vid and was in a hurry so if it sounds like I was being rushed and was trying to make a quick video well that was exactly what I was doing. 😂 Trying to keep my son who was 5 at the time our of the mud and the pig 💩.

I have a 2016 code black 12.0, i got tired of fighting solar panels with shade issues and the headache of loosing expensive rechargeable batteries. I even installed a DC controller inline. I made a 12vdc to 6vdc converter then had a extra 12vdc deep cycle marine everstart battery and put it all in a boat type weather box and i never have to charge my camera or worry about battery use. Ive had the same double a batteries in my camera for 4 years now. As you can imagine with a battery that size Ive used it up to over a year with no issues other than firmware updates doin it this way. Just commenting to give some suggestion to what works for me. Btw Matt I really get use out of your videos esp. formatting sd cards and appreciate you giving advice, keep it up!

Thanks for the info and the kind words. I’ve thought about going with something similar to your setup but since I moved to the Covert solar panel the only thing I’ve had to do is replace the 6v lantern battery once and I chalk that up to it being constantly discharged and recharged over and over. Other than this one time maintenance and for firmware updates it’s been set it and forget it.

Do you have to run the batteries in the camera itself and the external battery ?

Yes generally you need batteries in the camera as well but you do not need to fill the camera if you don’t want to. Just put them in the first four slots of the battery holder inside the camera. Most of the time they are the first two slots on the top and the first two on the bottom on the battery holder. So put batteries in those four slots and see if it powers on. If it does you are good to go.
