when i moved from kona side 15yrs ago, poho'iki was the first place(bedsides luquins!) i went ... woke in the morning and i knew i had found the 'hawaii' i had always been looking for ... besides just me, as they mention in the vid, this was a gathering place for many, if we lose it, it will be greatly missed. we will be fine. new ponds, pools, surfing and gathering places will be found or get made. people will plant, roads will be carved out of the new lava. madam just had to do some house cleaning and 'furniture re-arranging'!

The helicopter overflight video is always good. If it is safe, can you please get some video from the area of the Kapoho crater where the main flow direction changed last week? And, Why was the flow restriction at Kapoho Crater allowed to change the flow of the lava? Why wasn't the obstruction removed by demolition? Thanks.

Much too early to put a "name" on fissure 8. Several have suggested something with Leilani in it, but that ignores the other areas, many of which were very dear to quite a few people.
@RAdaltonracer
6 жыл бұрын
ladykiri42 Difference is those other areas either already have small cones named after them, such as with Kapoho, or were only a small part of the destruction. As someone with family in nearby Pahoa, I asked them, and they agreed that Leilani Estates, as the epicenter of the main Fissure 8 eruption, should get the honor of giving their name to the cone. Kapoho, Vacationland, and Ahalahnui may be gone, but so isn’t most of Leilani.

If renaming gives it historical value... In a 1000 years will it be able to be traced to being called fissures 8? Or is the history of it lost with the renaming. Originally it was fissure 8. Do you have the name and "all" history of the other volcanoes?

DLNR, Please consider the following: How about using the D9 dosers that smoothed out a portion of the Chain of Craters Road 45 + - days ago to make a few easier paths to the ocean (drainage ditch) for the lava? Hydrolicly force those ripper tooths down into the old lava and head for the ocean repeatedly. Than use the blade to push out broken up lava and make a low spot. Thus an easier way to the low spot/Pacific that any liquid will follow. As a boy in the 1950s I lived in the house next to the Drainage Ditch in Waianae. Even as a 7 year old, I could not help notice even than that the Drainage Ditch worked automaticly, 24/7 and is actually still there to this day on duty.
@stonew1927
6 жыл бұрын
And how do you suggest they get those dosers digging over an ACTIVE lava flow? Oh nevermind, suppose they could dig out a channel for the lava to flow out to sea. Might work for maybe two hours before the lava would overflow or plug or dam up and go somewhere else. I really wouldn't compare a drainage ditch that drains water with a lava flow. Water and lava aren't exactly the same....
@UTubeGlennAR

Why interfere with a natural process that is the primary building block of one of the most beautiful places on this planet? How many lives would it cost? How many millions would it take to save a few more homes? Especially given that water applied to this lava creates a toxic laze plume. It would be just as effective to take all the un informed critics and internet geniuses and drop them by helicopter into the opening of #8. Unfortunately wouldn't solve anything either as it relates to the lava.

Spirit Angelfish History, mate. Iceland was uninhabited until some Vikings arrived about 1000 years ago. In 1973 an eruption threatened the town of Vestmannaeyjar's only natural harbour & fishing industry. The locals pumped seawater at the lava, causing it to crust & form a barrier, diverting the flow & saving the harbour.

hardship has 2 definitions and it's usage is important, if discussing hardship, it is defined as severe depravation, oppression or something very hard to bear. If you are discussing a hardship, it is a lack of comfort, a constant toil or danger. The usage in the video is the latter, not the former.

You clearly need to buy a dictionary my friend, since you are assuming the incorrect definition of the word. The man in the video is using it correctly, it is a lack of a comfort previously enjoyed.
