I remember one campaign where the DM didn't understand my character. I was playing a bard and his biggest personality traits was that he loved insults. It didn't matter who they were directed towards or how screwed up they were. He would get in insult contests and laugh at every good insult. So one day the party enters a fairly magical city. He enters one store whose owner was a complete asshat but had his store set up that if a customer gets insulted they'd immediately be teleported outside and can't reenter. First insult towards my character has my character insult right back. Suddenly he's outside. But he doesn't get insulted at all. No matter what i said the DM refused to listen or look at my character sheet even the whole table agreed the DM was wrong

Could be a miscommunication on what the DM meant by "insulted". Maybe the DM didn't mean "insulted" as in actually feeling offended at an insult, just "insulted" as in the shopkeeper directed an insult at them (which makes some degree of sense, if the shopkeeper is trying to insult a customer, the shopkeeper has probably decided they don't like that customer and wants them out of the shop, hence the teleportation).
@erinjohnson8737

@@jacintacapelety9600 Nope. It was being offended. The shopkeeper insults everyone that walks through his door. My character was the only one who threw an insult back, thinking they were gonna have a little insult war for fun

Making it so only Fighters gain access to all weapons just means players will eat up a lvl to take Fighter.

Martial classes tend to get martial weapons and the squishier ones get either simple or only a select few weapons. If were going by 5th ed rules.

I think Fighters are fine, just their best stuff is front-loaded, as is the case with a lot of maritally inclined classes. I think they could probably do something, but the extra attacks do add up

23:15 The party had just gotten back to normal size after being trapped in a terrarium, being the size of a gold fish. While they were talking, there was a revolution in the tank between citizens wanting the players to restore them to normal size, and the barbarian king who was threatening the populace and refusing to allow them to leave. The castle catches fire, and without thinking the Rogue grabs a bucket of water and pours it in the terrarium. INSTANT TSUNAMI EFFECT. Few survived and a potential BBEG was born.

23:15 Level5 Wizard and Cleric walk into a magic shop that was recommended by some Elven Citizens in the city. They go in and start asking about Scrolls, Potions, enchanting, etc. The Wizard then tries to sell Scrolls of Rope Trick to the shop keep for 500gp. The shop keeper exclaims that he "has so many, a shelf could be labeled "rope tricks". This is an exaggeration, but also not as he grabs 6 Scrolls of rope trick from the shelves. Wizard gets offended and says something to the cleric. The cleric thought this meant Attack the shop keeper. After his first, failed attack, instead of apologizing for mistinking the wizard's meaning, they both continue attacking while laughing and exclaiming to me the DM, the he misunderstood the wizard's meaning. Neither of them explained this and continued attack the Level 8 sorcerer in his own shop. The guards come, Wizard hides inside his rope trick, cleric resists and is turned into a sea turtle where is promptly thrown in prison. We'll find out what happens to the Wizard next session.

I have an idea. Give your players a lot of options to non-lethally take down enemies. In D&D, you can choose to knock an enemy unconscious and have them be instantly stable. See that bandit? You can kill him, or you can knock him out and hand him over to the town guard. Keep track of all their kills. Then, at the end of your campaign, there is a military coup, and depending on how many kills they have, that’s how many enemies they have to fight in the coup. Essentially, the more they kill, the more people will hate them.
