This is a childhood favorite… and classic 80s. It’s PG and the meaning of “PG” was obviously different than it is now. Also is great example of generational differences - we as kids KNEW (because we were taught) that this was fiction and not real, thus weren’t really scared when watching this. Overall, I love it because the kids are part of what feels like a real life adventure game. It also features one of my favorite 80s actors - Dabney Coleman, who recently passed away earlier this year.

"How'd you escape?" "Jack Flack always escapes." "I don't need him anymore. I've got you, Dad." Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Tammy Hyler. Running Joke Fact: One of two 1984 films that had a joke revolving on FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, with the other film being Ghostbusters (1984). Casting Notes Fact: The elderly couple in the film, John McIntire and Jeanette Nolan, were actually married in real life for approximately 56 years until his death in 1991. The couple both had parts in the original Psycho (1960). Director Richard Franklin directed the sequel, Psycho II (1983). Henry Thomas would later go on to play a young Norman Bates in Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990). Location Location Fact: Though The Riverwalk scenes are actually filmed in San Antonio, the Alamo tour scene was recreated in a Universal sound studio because Natives regard the church as a shrine. Due to this, films have rarely featured actual Alamo footage. However, Cloak & Dagger (1984) is one rare film that featured actual footage of the Alamo entrance at Alamo East Plaza - especially driving up to the church doors. Ten years after this film's debut, the road was permanently closed to traffic. Airplane Enthusiast Fact: The "Invisible Bomber" project plans contained within the secret game cartridge strongly resemble the United States Air Force's SR-71 Blackbird. Not known to the general public at the time of the film's release, the SR-71 was designed to be a stealth aircraft, and had indeed sprung from a secret Air Force project to produce a supersonic stealth bomber. As it was fielded, the SR-71 ended up as a stealth reconnaissance platform. The "Invisible Bomber" plans in the film include a reference to a Forward Looking Infrared Pod (FLIR), which now is well known as a component of military attack craft; at the time of the filming however, it would have been futuristic. Agent X Fact: The video game which is central to the movie had already been in development as production of the film began (the game then named Agent X); when Atari was consulted to provide a game as an element of the movie, they tweaked "Agent X" and renamed it Cloak & Dagger (1983). Dabney Coleman's character was then renamed "Agent X" in the movie. The Cloak & Dagger (1983) game screens are mostly from the arcade version, and not the Atari 5200 game console as it would appear in the film. Although a 5200 version of the game was planned, it never was released due to the video game crash of 1983 and eventual sale of Atari. The arcade version of Cloak & Dagger appeared in 1983 prior to the release of the film. Next to the Cloak & Dagger games are boxes for the 5200 version of Tempest. Like the 5200 version of Cloak & Dagger, this game was never released.

D.A.R.Y.L. is another fun kids adventure movie. Early 80's a kid named Adam was killed. Daniel j travanti played the father in the network movie and we had to watch the movie in school as well and that's where stranger danger really began before kids were taught to trust adults go to an adult for help now they're taught to fear adults because you don't know what they're going to do.

The reason why it’s usually the red wire is that with electrical stuff red is used for power and black is ground or red is positive and black is negative. Other colors are accessories. But sometimes if you got someone who is crazy then they might use more then the basic wiring and add other colors or use other colors to make it harder to disarm it.

Loved this film back in the day! Dabney has been in many great roles, but to me he has always been Jack Flack! A long forgotten fact was that in the 70/80's kids were so 'left to their own devices' we could move fairly freely.. they had to play an advert on television at 10pm "It's 10pm, do you know where your kids are?". It's a big reason GenX are so self sufficient...and apathetic to much... whatever.

The *E.T.* poster in *Cloak & Dagger* serves as an Easter egg, referencing Henry Thomas, who played Elliott in *E.T.* During the '80s, many films featuring kids in peril or action-packed adventures, like *D.A.R.Y.L.*, *Flight of the Navigator*, and *Explorers*, often incorporated fantasy elements that kept the stakes relatively low. *Cloak & Dagger* shares similarities with *The NeverEnding Story* in its portrayal of an absent mother-where in the latter, the mother had passed away. In *The NeverEnding Story*, the father plays a minimal role, while in *Cloak & Dagger*, the father is a prominent figure who influences the child’s reality. *Stand By Me* offers a more realistic depiction of childhood trauma and stands as an iconic film in its portrayal of growing up. I'd also point out the Italian film *I'm Not Scared* (2003), which focuses on a child on the run from danger, and *Fresh* (1994), where Samuel L. Jackson plays the father of a young boy navigating the world of drug-running for gangsters. These films dive deep into the harsh realities faced by some children, offering an unflinching view of their struggles.

I remember liking it and maybe being a bit spooked by it as a kid. I rewatched it as an adult and it didn't really work for me, but yeah that's not the intended audience. Possibly this is an 80s movie where the kid being able to go off and have adventures is not entirely a good thing. He got his life threatened and killed a guy. That's pretty traumatic stuff no matter what the generation. (Okay 1640s kids maybe would not be phased.)

A couple of fun facts: the actor who played Morris is William Forsythe, who played Richie Madano in OUT FOR JUSTICE, Agent Paxton in THE ROCK, and Ronnie White in Rob Zombie’s HALLOWEEN. And the two taxi drivers: the guy who wanted the ten dollars in advance was actor/comedian Louie Anderson. One role I remember him playing was in the John Landis movie COMING TO AMERICA. The other taxi driver is actor/voice actor Nicholas Guest, who played as a cadet in STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN. I think he was in a John Landis movie, I believe it was TRADING PLACES, and is the brother in law to Jamie Lee Curtis, who is married to actor Christopher Guest, who played Nigel Tufnel in THIS IS SPINAL TAP, and also played as Commander Stone, the military doctor in A FEW GOOD MEN.

This is a Hitchcockian thriller for kids directed by the director of Psycho II (the best Hitchcock film Hitchcock never made - add it to your reaction list). At the time Henry Thomas was the face of video games, featuring in Intellivision commercials on TV, so that is perhaps why he was the obvious choice for this film. I always think it ironic that this film came out the year Atari collapsed and stars an actor who starred in the film whose awful video game contributed largely to that collapse.

I’m a bit less than two years older than Henry Thomas and have never seen this. Maybe I would have liked it in ‘84 but it kind of feels like it was for a younger audience than my then 14 years. Kind of too bad. The cast is appealing. Dabney Coleman, Thomas and “that guy from Phase IV” (Michael Murphy). This strikes me as a movie that missed its mark. Definitely they wanted Henry Thomas because of his ET fame, but at the same time he looks way too young to be pulling even fake pistols. Ollie nailed it, all the adult bystanders are acting weird considering what they’re seeing happening to quite a young boy. This would have worked a lot better if the actor/character were at least 15 years old, not 12ish.

My god, I haven't thought about this film in ages. I went out to see this movie, and I remember it being on cable, but that was what, 40 years ago. Damn, i was 19 and totally into video games, so I could relate to this kid. On top of that, Henry Thomas was still coming off of E.T. and would ride that wave for a while. Same with Dabney Coleman. He was in 9 to 5 with Jane Fomda and Lily Tomlin. This was Dolly Parton's early rolls, as she just got into acting. Great movie, you need to 9 to 5.

The Alamo was an old fort in Texas. It was taken by Mexicans in a battle that ended the life of Davy Crocket. 'Remember the Alamo' was a screed a bunch of newspapers used to convince people to go to war., Thus the Mexican War started. The one that gave us not only Texas(as a state) but also the American Southwest..
