@ScotsmanRS
8 жыл бұрын
+EoThorne You seem like the kind of person who likes to make good use of language (using words like "nasolabial", for example.) So when I say this, please know that it is not an insult or an "I'm such a clever little Grammar Nazi" type of comment; rather it is friendly advice from one person who likes words to another. That usage of "whomever" is incorrect. "Who" and "whoever" are *subjects* (like "I", "he", "she") and "whom" and "whomever" are *objects* (like "me", "him", "she"). A quick test to see which is right is to swap in "he" for "who" and "him" for "whom". So in your sentence: "______ figured out" try him: "him figured out" try he: "he figured out" "He" works in this case; "him" doesn't. That means you should use "whoever", not "whomever". I find it sad that "whom" is dying out in everyday speech, so it's great to find people who want to use it - I just like to make sure that we're all using it accurately. :)

Isabella Brand Well, I mean, I was aware they were both dead, but I never quite performed the synthesis of the two facts. I thank you for your concern, but it's unneeded. Maybe I'm unusual, but I tend to get over deaths quickly. I see lives as sort of like stories. All stories end, eventually. We may feel sad when a story ends, and we may wish there had been more to the story, but I, at least, am okay with them. Especially when they had a good long while to play out. Joy to you on this and all days.

Before I discovered your channel I didn't even know I had so many things to ask a blind person! i had just put my phone away to go sleep but the questions keep popping up.. 1. When you are startled, do you open your eyes wide like the sighted do? 2. Does getting shampoo in your eyes sting? 3. Do you cry when chopping onions? 4. When you wake up in the morning, do you open your eyes? 5. When you feel something is behind you (like I get scared in the shower when I close my eyes and HAVE to look behind me), do you wave your arms and feel around you? 6. Not really a question because you probably wouldn't know, but I wonder what your eyes can do. Like, you have eyes but they don't work. But do you see nothing or do you see black at all times? Is there a difference between the two? 7. Why do blind eyes look glazy/icy? Is is the cause of blindness or a side effect of blindness? I'm very sorry if some/any/all of these were already asked, I will look through all your videos tomorrow but I wanted to write them down to ease my brain before bed ;-) Thanks for your channel, I'm happy I found it!!

Hey! I'm so glad you're curious! (I was too!) My grandfather went blind, and I researched and found this channel awhile ago, so I can answer a few (with my second-hand Tommy knowledge) 1. My grandpa does, but he keeps his eyes open most of the time, even though he can't see. Lately, he's been closing them when people aren't speaking. He focuses his eyes best he can when people are talking to him. (It's a little spooky lol) But he will look around if he is spooked, even though it doesn't serve him any good. Tommy never needed to use his eyes, and I assume, never learned. I think his way of showing surprise/fear is different from sighted people. Opening his eyes also is very difficult and takes more effort, because he has no reason to open them, he just doesn't use those muscles. That's why I think not. 2. Yes for grandpa, probably for tom. Even though the lack of blood flow to the eyes causes some numbness, it's not dead tissue. Like a hand that's asleep. You can feel pressure, and if someone sticks a needle in it, it will hurt! 3. Blind people don't chop onions! lol I mean, if you were really good at it and you loved to cook and were a sighted chef and then went blind, don't let that stop you! But knife and blind don't mix. Especially if you live/cook alone. Buy pre-sliced onions! lol but The reaction if more of a tear duct thing. The blind can cry! 4. My grandpa flickers his eyes. It takes awhile for his eyes to "wakeup" since it's mostly his body remembering that he should open them, but then periodically realizing that it doesn't do anything. I assume Tom doesn't, because he doesn't/hasn't experienced wakedness with open eyes. 5. Legit no idea! What a question! Now I'm curious. 6. Grandpa sees periodic bursts of colour, and just "wobbly darkness." But he can sense light, and so can Tommy. It must be like looking through warped thick glass in a dark room at night. (from my understanding) You can tell that there is light, and a general brightness and direction, but not any shapes or enough to get any bearings. I think it's kind of romantic in a way. Humans being drawn to the light of the sun. 7. At the risk of sounding too morbid, this will happen to *your* eyes when you die! It's the result of the cornea being without blood, and it gets all awesome looking and cloudy. You will see alot of zombies and ghouls with eyes like this, (Happy Halloween!) (blond haired +) Blue eyed people are the most prone to being born with blindness, so tommy's baby blues are just extra cool looking! My grandpa eyes started to cloud and it freaked grandma out, so he wears glasses. He has brown eyes so they aren't as striking as Tom's, but still cool and spooky. Hope this helps! And don't let anyone tell you a question is stupid! It's the question itself that proves otherwise! Stay curious!

It has to be more than surgery. His brain has no nerve connections in place for which to see with. Giving him perfect eye sight wouldn't do anything for him, because either the brain wouldn't receive any signals or wouldn't know what to do with them.

I go to a big college that has over 36,000 students, and I saw one day a student that was blind walking with a walking stick. I was just amazed that a person could go around campus and get to buildings blind like that. Then I found your channel and I get to see how a person that is blind deals with it everyday, and of course has some comedy in there as well. Keep doing what you’re doing!

This is like when blind people were given sight, and then one of the first tests was shapes put in front of them, cubes, spheres, cyliders, etc. They knew what all of those felt like and looked like in 3D space, but couldn't tell them by sight. They had to feel them to identify them! So Tommy likely wouldn't have any chance to recognize himself. He would probably know if he could feel the faces, but just by sight, he'd have no clue which one he was.

@@Jebu911 That's... kinda depressing, i can't even begin to imagine how it would be like, for example, being born deaf and then suddenly having the ability to hear the doctor's noise, all the machines and people walking outside the room, your loved ones crying in joy, and you can't understand a thing... it would still be a little bit sad :/ We were gifted with things we consider normal, but it's these kinds of people who lack these skills who're the most humane and comprehensive of all.

Boston Prince some people wouldn't. don't quote me on this but I remember hearing about someone who after having their sight restored, there was a sensory overload (I mean, cmon, there's a whole world to take in) and they were just terrified of everything and they wanted to be blind again. I guess it wouldn't be the case if you had sight before had, but it'd be pretty terrifying for someone who has never/hardly used their eyes.

If they ever came out with surgery to fix your eyes so you can see, but it's soo expensive that it would cost all the money you had and you'd become homeless, but have 20/20 vision. Would you rather be homeless and have vision or have all you have and still be blind??

I thought of Jeff Healy the first time I saw you. He was Canadian as am I so he was very well known around here. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this specific detail to you Tommy but Jeff also kept his eyes closed. That along with the fact that your faces are a similar shape but he just had longer and lighter coloured hair was what immediately made me think of the similarity. He’s no longer with us unfortunately but being a guitar player myself his playing made me see the instrument in a way I never thought possible. I highly recommend checking out some of his music if you haven’t already. It’s beautiful. “See the Light” and “Angel Eyes” are a couple of really good songs to get you started. Oh and his cover of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is great too.

its less like not being able to know what things look like and more... not knowing what sight IS -- he can understand it but not imagine it. Instead he visualises what something might feel or sound like. He has an idea of a 3D "image" in his head through touch smell and sound. In his way he knows what things look like. you can sort of understand this by closing your eyes and picking up something random. Feel it, the curves, the shape, and imagine it forming itself in your mind - like clay. Thats sort of how an absence of a sense would be.
